IKA MultiDrive TS 1 replacement seals with unlock code, for MT 150.5 / BT 250.5, 0020023490

Product information "IKA MultiDrive TS 1 replacement seals with unlock code, for MT 150.5 / BT 250.5, 0020023490"

Digital monitoring and extending the service life of grinding vessels

In modern, certified sample preparation, the mechanical integrity of grinding and mixing vessels is an absolutely critical safety factor. When autoclavable plastic vessels such as the IKA MultiDrive MT 150.5 or BT 250.5 are operated at extreme speeds of up to 20,000 revolutions per minute, the integrated seals are subjected to immense physical and thermal stress. To prevent unnoticed material wear, leaks or even mechanical failure of the vessels during operation, these special IKA tubes communicate continuously with the drive unit via an integrated RFID chip. The mill records the exact duration of use and, via software, locks the vessel as soon as the seal’s safe service life has been exceeded. It is precisely at this process-critical interface that the IKA MultiDrive TS 1 seal set comes into play. With these five high-precision replacement seals and the essential unlock code, you can transform tubes that have been disabled by the software back into fully operational, absolutely safe laboratory tools.

The principle of the reactivation code: maximum process reliability

The reactivation code included in the scope of delivery is not merely a software feature, but a fundamental component of GLP-compliant (Good Laboratory Practice) occupational safety. If you manually replace the mechanically worn seal of an MT 150.5 grinding tube (dry grinding) or a BT 250.5 mixing tube (wet grinding), the IKA MultiDrive control drive unit does not automatically register this physical maintenance step. Only by entering the enclosed cryptographic activation code into the system is the internal RFID usage counter for that specific tube reset to zero. This digital handshake guarantees to both the system and the user that a physically new, unused seal has been installed, which will once again withstand the extreme hydrodynamic pressures and shear forces of the next analysis cycle one hundred per cent.

Prevention of cross-contamination and aerosol formation

In addition to purely mechanical safety, regular seal replacement plays a key analytical role. Even with the most intensive autoclave cleaning, minute residues of DNA, proteins or toxic analytes from the previous sample can become embedded in the microscopic abrasion of aged sealing rings in the form of stubborn biofilms. By consistently replacing the TS 1 seals, absolute hermetic isolation of the sample is restored and the risk of dangerous cross-contamination (carry-over) between different sample batches is physically eliminated. The intact sealing system also protects laboratory staff, as it effectively prevents the escape of fine, respirable aerosols during the vigorous dry grinding of brittle materials.

Drastic reduction in the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

Investing in the TS 1 replacement seal set is a highly cost-effective decision for laboratories with high sample throughput. Instead of disposing of the entire tube – made from high-quality plastics and a solid stainless steel beater – as costly plastic waste once its software-defined service life has expired, you simply replace the specific wear part. This extends the service life of the expensive MT 150.5 and BT 250.5 vessels, drastically reduces your laboratory’s environmental footprint and significantly lowers the running costs (Total Cost of Ownership) for the IKA MultiDrive system.

Contents

  • 5 x IKA MultiDrive TS 1 replacement seals (precisely fitted for MT 150.5 and BT 250.5)
  • 1 x physical reactivation code for system reset

(Important note: The MT 150.5 and BT 250.5 grinding/mixing vessels, as well as the IKA MultiDrive control drive unit, are not included in the scope of delivery!)

Individual requirements & accessories

Please note that you only need this item if you are already using the reusable MT 150.5 or BT 250.5 plastic tubes and your drive unit is displaying an expired RFID counter. For extremely hard, brittle or temperature-sensitive samples that cannot be processed in plastic vessels, we recommend switching to the solid stainless steel grinding chambers of the IKA MI series (e.g. MI 250 S), which have no software-imposed service life limit. Our technical procurement service will be happy to advise you on optimising your sample preparation workflows.
