Product information "IKA NANOSTAR 7.5 digital stirrer, overhead stirrer, 5 L, 0025004356"
Miniaturisation in stirring technology without any loss of performance
In microchemical synthesis, parallel sample preparation and when working under very confined fume cupboards, the physical space required by laboratory instruments is a limiting factor. The IKA NANOSTAR 7.5 digital stirrer completely redefines the geometric limits of overhead stirrers. Despite its extreme compactness (the housing is barely larger than an apple), the unit delivers uncompromising mechanical performance. It is designed, in terms of both fluid dynamics and motor performance, to powerfully homogenise, disperse or dissolve media with a volume of up to 5 litres (based on the physical viscosity of H₂O). The device combines a minimal footprint with exceptional stability and lowers the centre of gravity in the laboratory setup, which significantly reduces the risk of tipping in complex stand configurations.
Rheological control via brushless BLDC technology
The breakdown of agglomerates or the uniform mixing of emulsions requires a high, continuous torque. The thermodynamic and kinetic heart of the NANOSTAR 7.5 digital is a state-of-the-art, brushless DC motor (BLDC technology). This wear-free and virtually maintenance-free drive generates a constant torque of 7.5 Ncm at the stirring shaft. The critical process advantage is this: if the rheological properties of the fluid change during the chemical reaction (for example, due to a drastic increase in viscosity during polymerisation or a drop in temperature), the integrated microprocessor electronically adjusts the power consumption in a fraction of a second. The set rotational speed, within the range of 50 to 2,000 revolutions per minute, is maintained at a precisely constant level, which prevents uncontrolled flow disruption and guarantees absolute reproducibility. The maximum dynamic viscosity of the medium may be up to 4,000 mPa·s.
Smart ergonomics: hollow shaft and chemical-resistant sensors
When changing mixing vessels or dealing with varying fill levels, the mixing element (propeller, anchor or dissolver disc) often needs to be adjusted axially in height. The NANOSTAR 7.5 digital is designed with a continuous hollow shaft. This engineering ingenuity allows the user to simply slide the shaft of the stirring tool through the motor housing. This completely eliminates the tedious and error-prone task of cutting expensive stainless steel stirring shafts to length. The drive is operated via a capacitive touch slider on a bright LED glass display. Unlike mechanical push-buttons or rotary potentiometers, the continuous real-glass front panel has no gaps whatsoever. It is extremely resistant to aggressive organic solvents, acid vapours and alkalis, and can be thoroughly and safely decontaminated as part of a GLP-compliant (Good Laboratory Practice) routine.
Safety architecture and digital system integration
For unattended continuous operation in automated analysis lines, an overhead stirrer must ensure maximum safety (Occupational Health and Safety). The housing of the NANOSTAR 7.5 digital is sealed to the high IP 54 protection rating. This effectively protects the sensitive power electronics and the motor block against the ingress of fine dust and splashing water from all directions. An electronic overload and overtemperature protection system automatically shuts down the motor immediately in the event of a physical blockage of the stirring mechanism, thereby preventing a motor fire. The rear of the unit is fitted with a USB interface. This not only enables future firmware updates to be installed effortlessly, but also allows tamper-proof control and comprehensive data documentation of torque trends via laboratory software solutions such as IKA labworldsoft.

Individual requirements & accessories
The NANOSTAR 7.5 digital is a drive motor only. To achieve optimal mixing in terms of fluid dynamics in your beaker or reaction vessel, you must use a stirring element precisely matched to the sample (propeller, centrifugal or anchor stirrer from the IKA R-series). To ensure the motor is secured to the stand arm in a completely safe and vibration-free manner, we also recommend a robust IKA plate stand in combination with the appropriate cross-sleeve. Our procurement service, which specialises in process engineering, will be happy to configure the physically optimal stirring setup for your laboratory.
