Anyone who switches between different volumes in the laboratory does not reach for a separate pipette for each quantity. With an adjustable range of 1,000 to 10,000 µl in 10 µl steps, the IKA PETTE vario 1-10 ml covers the largest volume range of the PETTE vario series. As an air displacement pipette with mechanical operation, it works without a battery or power supply. The red-coded device weighs only 108 grams and can be fully autoclaved at 121 °C.
Variable volume from 1 to 10 millilitres
The nominal volume is 10,000 µl, and the setting can be varied between 1,000 and 10,000 µl in steps of 10 µl each. At nominal volume, the accuracy according to the certificate of conformity to ISO 8655 is ±60 µl or ±0.6 percent, and the precision is ±15 µl or ±0.15 percent. At 50 percent of the nominal volume (5,000 µl), accuracy and precision are ±40 µl (±0.8 %) and ±10 µl (±0.2 %), and at 10 percent of the nominal volume (1,000 µl) they are ±30 µl (±3 %) and ±6 µl (±0.6 %). These values can be used directly for documentation in a QM system, as they derive directly from the certificate of conformity to ISO 8655 and do not have to be determined separately.
Autoclavable for sterile applications
The piston is made of PPSU, a plastic that withstands repeated autoclave cycles at 121 °C. This allows the pipette to be sterilised completely instead of only changing the tip, which is relevant in microbiological or cell-culture-related work when cross-contamination between different batches has to be ruled out. Unlike pipettes that can only be sterilised at the tip cone, the complete device can be placed in the autoclave here. The certificate of conformity according to ISO 8655 additionally documents compliance with the international standard for air displacement pipettes.
Ergonomics through interchangeable handles
Three interchangeable handles of different shape and different material are included in the scope of delivery. Anyone who uses the pipette over longer periods or at high frequency can thus choose the handle that sits most comfortably for their own hand and way of working, instead of adapting to a single fixed shape. For larger volumes such as preparing buffers or dilutions, the 1 to 10 ml version described here is the right choice, and for microlitre ranges one of the smaller volume ranges from the same series is recommended. Calibration and autoclaving
Unlike with electronic pipettes, the question of disposal through the collection of waste electrical equipment does not arise with the PETTE vario, as it is a purely mechanical device without electronics. Anyone who lets cell cultures or microbiological samples shake unattended overnight needs temperature control that also works below room temperature. The IKA KS 4000 ic control combines an orbital shaking motion with PID-controlled heating up to 80 degrees Celsius and a built-in cooling coil. Together with an externally connected circulation chiller, the 90 litre internal chamber reaches temperatures down to room temperature minus 10 degrees. Without this chiller, the device works as an incubating shaker with heating, entirely without active cooling.PID control from minus 10 to 80 degrees CelsiusTwo PT1000 temperature sensors and an integrated PID controller hold the set temperature with a setting accuracy of 0.1 kelvin.
