The IKA ETS-D5 is an electronic contact thermometer with a PT1000 sensor and touchscreen display for external temperature control on compatible IKA magnetic stirrers with heating. Once connected, it takes over active temperature control within the medium and switches the heating of the connected magnetic stirrer on and off as required, whilst the magnetic stirrer itself remains active as an additional safety monitoring device. The replaceable PT1000 sensor, tolerance class A, covers a measuring range from -20 °C to +400 °C with a resolution of 0.1 K. Three control modes (Fast, Precise, Synthesis Block-optimised) adapt the heating rate to different applications. Integrated safety functions such as sensor timeout and temperature drop detection automatically switch off the heater in the event of a fault. The housing is dust- and splash-proof to IP 54. The IKA ETS-D7 Wireless Sensor (MPN 0025008370) is a wireless temperature sensor, which transmits measured values wirelessly to compatible IKA magnetic stirrers and agitators, thereby eliminating the need for cumbersome cable connections in the fume hood or glovebox. Temperature data can be sent in real time to the paired drive unit via a digital WPAN radio link with a range of up to 15 metres, allowing the stirrer and sensor to be positioned independently of one another. Thanks to an integrated BNC socket, the ETS-D7 also functions as a stand-alone pH meter as soon as a suitable pH electrode is connected, thereby covering two measurement tasks with a single device. For networked laboratory workstations where temperature and stirring parameters are to be documented centrally, this wireless solution also reduces the amount of cabling required at the workstation. All-in-one measurement technology: temperature and pH in a single device An analogue pH electrode can be connected directly to the ETS-D7 via the integrated BNC socket. This transforms the wireless sensor into a fully-fledged, portable pH meter, eliminating the need to purchase an additional device for occasional pH checks. The TFT touchscreen displays temperature and pH values with a resolution of two decimal places (0.01) each; the accuracy of the pH measurement is ±0.1 pH over a measuring range of 0 to 14 pH. The touchscreen interface allows you to switch between displays and adjust settings directly on the device. For laboratories that only need to check pH values occasionally, this eliminates the need to purchase a separate pH meter. The temperature probe’s minimum immersion depth of 20 mm also allows measurements to be taken in smaller sample vessels. Intelligent energy management with Auto-Wake An integrated infrared and brightness sensor detects whether people are in the immediate vicinity and automatically activates the display when necessary (Auto-Wake). When idle, the sensor automatically switches to standby mode, achieving a battery life of up to 100 hours in Auto-Wake mode. With the display switched on continuously, the operating time is up to 50 hours. The integrated battery, with a capacity of 700 mAh at 5 V, reaches around 50 % of its full capacity after 60 minutes and around 75 % after 90 minutes, meaning that even short charging breaks can be utilised for continued use. For long test series lasting several days, this energy management system significantly reduces the effort required for recharging. Suitable for IKA RET basic, RCT basic and Eurostar control The ETS-D7 transmits its measured values via WPAN radio to compatible IKA drives. These include the magnetic stirrers of the RET basic and RCT basic series, as well as the Eurostar control stirrers. For older RCT basic models without an integrated WPAN module, the wireless connection can be retrofitted using a separately available USB wireless receiver. Depending on the connected drive, temperature and stirring parameters can be adjusted directly via the sensor’s touchscreen interface using bidirectional communication. In addition, the ETS-D7 can be integrated into safety control loops as a second, redundant temperature sensor, providing an independent control mechanism in the event of exothermic reactions. For laboratories already using a RET basic magnetic stirrer, the ETS-D7 can thus be used as a wireless extension of the existing temperature control system. Intelligent LED status monitoring for weekend operation The Pt.Wireless’s key technical feature is its predictive, multi-stage energy management system, which enables a continuous operating time of up to 150 hours. To reduce unforeseen system failures during long-term experiments, the sensor features a smart battery status warning via an integrated LED indicator. If the remaining runtime of the lithium battery falls below 70 hours, the LED signals, according to the manufacturer, at an early stage that the remaining runtime is no longer sufficient for unattended operation over a full weekend. When the remaining runtime falls below a critical reserve of approximately 20 hours, the indicator changes to a slowly flashing yellow warning signal to alert laboratory staff that the remaining runtime for overnight operation is about to end.
