IKA RW 28 digital stirrer, up to 80 l, 900 Ncm, 0005040000

Product information "IKA RW 28 digital stirrer, up to 80 l, 900 Ncm, 0005040000"

The RW 28 digital is part of IKA’s mechanical RW series, which runs alongside the electronically controlled EUROSTAR series and is designed for highly viscous media. The unit stirs up to 80 litres of water, with a torque of up to 900 Ncm in the lower speed range. Anyone who regularly handles larger batches in a pilot-scale facility or pilot plant and prefers robust, straightforward mechanics to additional electronic functions will find the RW 28 digital to be a workhorse capable of continuous operation at 100 % duty cycle.

Two speed ranges for power and speed

In range I, the speed is between 60 and 400 rpm (at 50 Hz); the torque at the stirring shaft reaches up to 900 Ncm here, and up to 1,144 Ncm for short periods under overload at 60 rpm. In range II, the speed increases to up to 1,400 rpm, whilst the torque drops to a maximum of 300 Ncm. The speed can be adjusted continuously, with an accuracy of ±1 rpm and a measurement deviation of ±10 rpm. An LED display shows the set value; there is no LCD display or wireless connectivity, as offered by IKA’s newer digital LCD generation. For the classic RW mechanism, which has been tried and tested for years, this is sufficient for everyday laboratory use.

Mechanics and connection

The chuck accommodates stirring shafts with a diameter between 1 and 10 millimetres; the hollow shaft, with an internal diameter of 10.5 mm, can be inserted even when the unit is at a standstill. The arm for mounting on a stand measures 16 mm in diameter and 145 mm in length. According to the manufacturer, the stirrer can handle viscosities of up to 50,000 mPas. A temperature limiter protects the motor from overheating, whilst an electronic overload protection system switches the unit off in the event of a fault and displays an error code on the screen. The unit operates on the European mains supply at 220 to 240 volts; other voltage variants at 115 V and 100 V are available. The IP rating is IP 40; the housing is made of coated cast aluminium with thermoplastic components. Without a stirring tool, the unit achieves a sound pressure level of 62.5 dB(A) and thus remains comparatively quiet even during continuous operation.

Stirring elements and safety accessories

For a variety of stirring tasks, IKA offers a wide range of stirring elements for the RW 28 digital: axial-flow propeller and centrifugal stirrers, radial-flow dissolvers and disc stirrers, as well as tangential-flow paddle and anchor stirrers. In addition, there are stands in various designs, ranging from the simple H-bar to the floor stand, as well as boss heads and clamping holders for mounting. A stirrer shaft guard with a matching stand mount is available as an optional safety accessory; it covers the free-running shaft during operation. For environments requiring validation, IKA also offers qualification documents, factory calibration certificates and IQ/OQ documents as a separately orderable service; they must be ordered together with the unit.

Typical applications

  • Intensive stirring of highly viscous media up to 80 litres in laboratory and pilot plants
  • Continuous operation at 100 % duty cycle without any loss of performance
  • Powerful stirring in range I, faster stirring of thinner samples in range II
  • Robust operation without display electronics or additional wireless functions

Position within the RW series

Within the mechanical RW series, the RW 28 digital is the mid-range model. For smaller batches of up to 20 litres requiring lower torque, the RW 20 digital Package is suitable as a ready-to-use complete set with a stand; for batches of up to 200 litres and 3,000 Ncm, the RW 47 digital with three-phase connection is recommended. Those looking for electronic speed control with an LCD display instead of mechanical control will find an alternative in the EUROSTAR series, such as the EUROSTAR 200 digital with a comparable stirring volume.

IKA R 301 Plexiglas stirrer shaft guard, length adjustable 190–310 mm, 0002603000
Manufacturer number: 0002603000

The IKA R 301 stirrer shaft guard (MPN 0002603000) is an essential mechanical safety component for the safe and accident-free operation of laboratory overhead stirrers. During intensive mixing, dispersing or homogenisation processes, considerable kinetic forces act on rotating stirrer shafts. This professional shaft guard forms a physical barrier that reliably protects laboratory staff from accidental contact with the rotating parts. It effectively prevents clothing, hair or laboratory gloves from being drawn in, making the safety device a key component in risk assessments and in implementing national and international health and safety requirements. Stepless length adjustment for flexible experimental set-ups From a process engineering perspective, the R 301 model excels thanks to its high degree of telescopic flexibility. The guard can be adjusted steplessly along its axis within a length range of 190 to 310 mm and locked into place precisely. This variable geometry allows for precise adaptation to different shaft lengths, vessel heights and varying immersion depths of the stirring elements. Laboratories thus benefit from a highly adaptable protective system that can be flexibly integrated into changing experimental set-ups without compromising workplace ergonomics. Unrestricted process control thanks to a high-quality Plexiglas matrix The cylindrical protective screen is made entirely from a high-purity, mechanically stable Plexiglas matrix. This material combines minimal weight with outstanding optical clarity. Laboratory staff are able to monitor the mixture, transient flow patterns, phase transitions or any delayed boiling in the sample vessel at all times without restrictions. At the same time, the Plexiglas structure offers effective protection against transient media splashes and can be cleaned quickly and without leaving any residue.
