Product information "IKA RW 47 digital stirrer, up to 200 l, 3,000 Ncm, 0004050000"
The RW 47 digital is the largest model in IKA’s mechanical RW series and is designed for stirring volumes of up to 200 litres of water. Torque of up to 3,000 Ncm is available in the lower speed range, which is sufficient for viscous media in pilot plants and small-scale production. The drive operates on three-phase current; a mains cable is not included in the Scope of delivery, and the connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Two speed ranges, plenty of power
In range I, the speed is between 57 and 275 rpm (at 50 Hz); the torque at the stirring shaft reaches up to 3,000 Ncm here, and up to 4,642 Ncm for short periods during overload at 60 rpm. In range II, the torque drops to a maximum of 620 Ncm, whilst the speed increases to up to 1,300 rpm. The speed is infinitely variable, with an accuracy of ±1 rpm. According to the manufacturer, the stirrer can handle viscosities of up to 100,000 mPas, significantly more than the smaller RW 28 digital model, which is rated at 50,000 mPas.
Three-phase connection by a qualified electrician
With a three-phase connection, the motor draws around 511 watts; the unit’s power consumption is specified as 513 watts in the data sheet. A power cable is not supplied with the stirrer; the mains connection at 3 x 400 volts (a 3 x 230 V variant is available) must be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with the wiring diagrams in the operating instructions. Allow for this step before commissioning; the unit is not plug-and-play and requires a permanent connection to the three-phase mains supply. If you are setting up the installation site from scratch, it is best to coordinate the connected load and fuse ratings with the relevant qualified electrician at an early stage.
Mechanics and safety
The stirrer shafts are held in place by a chuck with a diameter of between 3 and 16 millimetres; the hollow shaft has an internal diameter of 13 mm. Unlike the smaller RW models, the RW 47 digital is not attached to the stand via an arm, but by means of a flange. A temperature limiter protects the motor, whilst an electronic overload protection system switches the unit off in the event of a fault and displays an error code. With an IP 54 rating, the degree of protection is higher than that of the RW 28 digital (IP 40). A stirrer shaft guard and a safety limit switch with bracket are available as optional extras; the latter ensures that the unit only switches on at a defined height within the stand’s working range.
Stirring elements and stands
To complement the RW 47 digital, IKA offers axial-flow propeller stirrers, radial-flow dissolvers and disc stirrers, as well as tangential-flow paddle and anchor stirrers, each available in versions designed for larger vessels and higher viscosities than the smaller RW models. In addition, there are several floor-standing and telescopic stands from the R-6547 and R-474 series, which are designed to fit the unit’s flange mounting. For environments requiring validation, IKA also provides factory calibration certificates.
Typical applications
- Intensive stirring of highly viscous media up to 200 litres in pilot plants and small-scale production
- Continuous operation at 100 % duty cycle
- Powerful stirring in range I, faster stirring in range II
- Defined activation level on the stand with optional safety limit switch
Position within the RW series
Within the mechanical RW series, the RW 47 digital is positioned above the RW 28 digital (80 litres, 900 Ncm) and the RW 20 digital Package (20 litres, complete set with stand). Those looking for electronic speed control with an LCD display for similarly sized batches, rather than mechanical control, will find an alternative in the EUROSTAR series, such as the EUROSTAR 400 digital with a stirring volume of up to 150 litres and 400 Ncm.
