The IKA S 50 N - W 80 SMK (MPN 0008006300) is a highly specialised dispersing and mixing tool for the high-performance IKA T 50 digital drive. Whilst conventional dispersing tools are designed for maximum shear forces to break down materials, this jet mixing head (SMK) is designed for efficient mixing and suspension in large volumes ranging from 1 to 50 litres (based on water).

The jet mixing principle

The geometry of the SMK generates a strong axial flow (from top to bottom or bottom to top, depending on the orientation/direction of rotation).

• Suspending powders: Solids are swept up from the bottom of the vessel by the directed liquid jet and distributed homogeneously throughout the liquid.
• No vortex effect: Unlike simple propeller agitators, the stator tube prevents the formation of a deep vortex. This ensures that no unwanted air is incorporated into the medium – a crucial advantage in the production of sensitive emulsions or foaming media.
• Rapid mixing: Even in large beakers or small vessels (up to 50 litres), the Ø 80 mm stator head ensures rapid and complete circulation of the entire sample.

High-quality construction (“N”)

The unit is built for heavy-duty, continuous use in laboratories and pilot plants:

• Materials: All components that come into contact with the medium are made of high-quality stainless steel (AISI 316L).
• PTFE bearing (“N”): The tried-and-tested, highly chemically resistant PTFE bearing ensures smooth operation and a long service life.
• Hygiene: The instrument can be easily dismantled for thorough cleaning and is fully autoclavable at 121 °C.
