Product information "Kern OZM 932 stereo microscope set, binocular, double arm with base plate, zoom 0.7x to 4.5x, LED ring light"
The Kern OZM 932 is a binocular stereo microscope set featuring a ball-bearing double arm with base plate. It also includes a zoom head ranging from 0.7x to 4.5x and a 4.5 W LED ring light in incident light. Kern describes such sets as pre-configured solutions for the microscopy workstation, which saves assembling the individual parts. The head, universal stand, holder, ring light and dust cover are included.
Ball-bearing double arm with base plate
A ball-bearing double arm with a base plate serves as the stand. The mounting diameter on the universal stand is 37 mm, whilst the head mount is 76 mm. The set weighs approx. 28 kg net and approx. 32 kg gross; the packaging measures 700 x 520 x 350 mm. Focusing is carried out via the coarse focus.
Binocular zoom head
The head is binocular, inclined at 45° and rotatable through 360°. The Greenough system offers a continuously variable zoom range from 0.7x to 4.5x. Together with the HSWF-10x eyepieces (23 mm field of view), this provides a total magnification of 7x to 45x with a field of view ranging from 5.1 to 32.8 mm. The working distance is 110 mm, and the sample height may be up to 130 mm. The interpupillary distance is adjustable from 52 to 76 mm, and the dioptre adjustment operates on both sides from minus 6 to plus 6.
Lighting, power and camera
The ring light is dimmable, and the power supply is built-in (100 to 240 V). The head has no camera output. According to Kern, the ODC 874 (3.1 MP) and ODC 881 (5.1 MP) eyepiece cameras are intended for imaging. The OZM 933 is available with a trinocular head and the same stand. If you also need transmitted light, you can look at the OZL 463 with incident and transmitted light.
Double arm or articulating arm?
The OZM 932 and the OZM 933 share the same stand, the ball-bearing double arm with a base plate, and weigh approximately 28 kg net. The OZM 932 is binocular, whilst the OZM 933 is trinocular. Models featuring a clamp instead of a base plate include the OZM 952 (binocular) and the OZM 953 (trinocular), each weighing approx. 11 kg, as well as the OZM 983 with a spring-loaded articulating arm, weighing approx. 6 kg. The OZM 913 has a telescopic arm with a base plate and weighs approx. 26 kg.
Typical applications
Kern lists the following main areas of application for the OZM 9 series: in vitro fertilisation, detection of parasites, zoology and botany, tissue preparation, dissection, quality control, LCD/LED electronics, semiconductor technology, assembly and repair.
- Tissue preparation and dissection at a fixed workstation
- Detection of parasites in samples
- Zoology and botany in teaching and practice
- Visual inspection of small components
In biology training, each group looks at the same object with both eyes, without a camera in between.
Regulatory information
As an electrical device, the microscope falls under the ElektroG. The manufacturer Kern & Sohn GmbH is registered under the WEEE registration number DE 80821200. How to return old appliances is described on the page Environment and disposal.
