Product information "KNF LABOPORT SH 820 G, vacuum pump system with separator and high-performance condenser, 20 l/min, ATEX marking category 3, 325234"
For those in the laboratory who wish not only to draw off solvents but also to actively recover them, rather than losing them unused via the exhaust air, the KNF LABOPORT SH 820 G is a complete vacuum pump system: a chemical-resistant diaphragm vacuum pump, a base plate, a separator on the suction side and a high-performance condenser on the discharge side. With a flow rate of 20 l/min, it covers the moderate performance range of the SH series, typically used in distillation processes or with rotary evaporators, where solvent vapours need to be recovered for cost, safety or environmental reasons.
Separator and high-performance condenser for solvent recovery
The base plate supports a separator on the suction side (order number 047729) and a high-performance condenser with a pressure relief valve on the discharge side (order number 114855), which ensures solvent recovery. Both components are connected via a red GL screw cap (GL 14 or GL 18), a standard laboratory glass thread that is easy to open and close again. One hose connector each (KNF designation Hose-BGR) is intended for the separator flask (order number 323044) and the condenser (order number 317157).
Chemically resistant materials in the parts in contact with the medium
The pump head is made of TFM PTFE, the diaphragm is PTFE-coated, and the valves are made of FFPM. This combination of materials makes the system suitable for aggressive and corrosive media. The ultimate vacuum is a maximum of 6 mbar (abs.), and the operating pressure is a maximum of 0.1 bar (rel.). These values apply to the entire system, not just the pump itself.
Explosion protection for internal parts in contact with the medium, Category 3
The SH 820 G bears the ATEX marking (Ex) II 3/-G Ex h IIB+H2 T3 Gc and is therefore designed for pumping potentially explosive atmospheres. This marking refers exclusively to the internal, media-contacting area of the system, not to the installation environment. It is the same ATEX equipment category as for the SR 820 G, lower than that of the pure LABOPORT N 820 G (Category 2).
Compact and mains-powered
Measuring 323 x 416 x 260 mm (W x H x D) and weighing 11.7 kg, the system is designed for use on a laboratory bench or in a fume hood. It is powered directly from the mains (100 to 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz) and requires no battery; its power consumption is 60 W. A thermal switch and mains fuse provide protection against overload, and the degree of protection is IP30. Permissible media and ambient temperatures range from +5 to +40 °C.
Same size as the N 820 G and SR 820 G
The size 820 pump head is also listed by the manufacturer under reference number 313452, the same identification number used for the identical drive unit of the LABOPORT N 820 G and the SR 820 G system variant. Anyone who has already used one of these size 820 variants will also be familiar with the drive unit of the SH 820 G. Spare parts kit 331051 is available for the pump itself, whilst spare parts kit 331053 is available for the complete system (including additional O-rings).
Installation and operation
The SH 820 G is designed for installation on a laboratory bench or in a fume hood and is operated via the base plate with the attached separator and condenser. Before initial commissioning, the hose connections should be checked to ensure they are secure, particularly at the condenser’s pressure relief valve. Like the entire LABOPORT series, the SH 820 G operates completely oil-free; there is no need for regular oil changes, and there is no risk of oil mist entering the gases being pumped or the laboratory air.
Typical applications
As a vacuum pump system with active solvent recovery, the SH 820 G is particularly suitable for:
- Distillation
- Rotary evaporation
N, SR or SH: choosing the right configuration
If a pure vacuum without a collection vessel is sufficient, the more compact LABOPORT N 820 G is the simpler choice. If the primary requirement is to collect liquid without condensation, the SR 820 G system variant with two separator flasks is sufficient. If, on the other hand, the focus is on the active recovery of solvents, the SH 820 G with separator and high-performance condenser is the right choice. For those requiring a higher flow rate, the same series offers the identically constructed SH 840 G with a flow rate of 34 l/min.
