LAUDA Alpha RA 24 Cooling Bath, -25 to 100 °C, 14 to 22-litre Bath, L000640

Product information "LAUDA Alpha RA 24 Cooling Bath, -25 to 100 °C, 14 to 22-litre Bath, L000640"

When an external reactor, a long length of tubing or several loads need to be cooled simultaneously, it is not just the temperature but, above all, the bath volume that matters. With a capacity of 14 to 22 l, the LAUDA Alpha RA 24 is the largest model in the Alpha range of cooling thermostats and covers the same operating temperature range of -25 to 100 °C as the RA 8 and the RA 12.

Cooling capacity for higher loads

At 20 °C, the RA 24 delivers 0.425 kW of cooling capacity with ethanol as the bath medium; at 0 °C, 0.33 kW; at -20 °C 0.08 kW, making it the model with the highest cooling capacity in the series within the upper temperature range. As with the smaller models, the maximum heating power is 1.5 kW, the maximum power consumption is 1.8 kW, and the current draw is 8 A.

Large stainless steel bath

The bath vessel measures 350 x 277 x 160 mm internally and has a capacity of 14 to 22 l, sufficient for several reaction vessels or a longer cooling coil at the same time. The complete unit weighs 43 kg and measures 415 x 605 x 605 mm (W x D x H); the bath lid, pump connection set and short-circuit hose are included in the Scope of delivery.

Pump and external connections

The circulation pump delivers up to 15 L/min at a maximum of 0.2 bar, which is sufficient for external loads with moderate pressure loss. If this is no longer sufficient for a larger external system or several loads connected simultaneously, a separate recirculating cooler such as the LAUDA Microcool MC 350 supplements the cooling capacity.

Safety and control

A fully electronic, continuous controller maintains temperature stability to within ± 0.05 K, whilst a 1-line LED display shows the current value. Low-level and overtemperature protection with audible and visual alarms, as well as an automatic compressor shut-off, are also standard features on the RA 24.

Typical applications

  • Cooling of external reactors and plant components requiring a higher volume
  • Simultaneous temperature control of multiple sample series in research and industry
  • Material testing and refrigeration experiments across the entire range from -25 to 100 °C
  • Use as a central cooling bath in laboratories with varying, larger consumers

Selection guide within the Alpha series

If the bath volume of the RA 24 is insufficient for the planned setup, the smaller LAUDA Alpha RA 8 (5.0 to 7.5 l) and the medium-sized LAUDA Alpha RA 12 (9.5 to 14.5 l) are suitable alternatives from the same series. If no active cooling is required at all, the LAUDA Alpha A 24 heating thermostat, which is identical in design, covers the same temperature range without a compressor.

Regulatory information

This device is an electrical appliance within the meaning of the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG). The WEEE registration number of the manufacturer, LAUDA DR. R. WOBSER GMBH & CO. KG, is DE 66424057. Information on the return of end-of-life equipment can be found on our Environment and Disposal page.

The device uses the refrigerant R-134a, with a charge of 0.170 kg and a GWP of 1430, which corresponds to a CO2 equivalent of approximately 0.2 tonnes. The Lauda data sheet refers this value to Regulation (EU) 2024/573 on certain fluorinated greenhouse gases.

Warranty and procurement service

LAUDA DR. R. WOBSER GMBH & CO. KG, Lauda-Königshofen, offers end customers a 5-year ‘Best’ warranty on this unit, effective from the date of delivery. This is subject to registration at lauda.de within three months of delivery and the use of genuine LAUDA temperature control fluids. The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship. Excluded are, amongst other things, wear parts such as filters and seals, damage caused during transport, damage resulting from unauthorised tampering, as well as cables, plugs, hoses and adaptors. LAUDA’s warranty terms and conditions (as at 03/2025) apply. Your statutory warranty rights remain unaffected.

For the RA 24, LT Laborhandel’s procurement service can, if required, put together a selection of suitable accessories, such as a larger quantity of temperature-control fluid for the larger bath volume, an additional storage tank or hoses for multiple external connections. We can also request spare parts from the manufacturer on your behalf.
