Product information "LAUDA Puridest PD 4 Mono Distillation Apparatus, 4 L/h, without Storage Tank, L003012"
For those who need small quantities of distilled water on a continuous basis in the laboratory without having to carry a storage container around, the LAUDA Puridest PD 4 is a benchtop unit that dispenses the distillate directly from the condenser. This mono distillation apparatus produces up to 4 litres of distilled water per hour with a conductivity of 2.3 µS/cm at 25 °C, pure enough for diluting reagents and sample solutions according to DAB regulations and international pharmacopoeia standards. Without a storage tank, the unit fits on any laboratory bench and can be connected directly to a Schuko socket using the supplied mains cable.
Collect distillate directly from the condenser
The PD 4 does not have a storage tank. The distillate flows out via a drain pipe on the condenser and is collected directly into a vessel. The cooling water supply is controlled manually via the outlet temperature, whilst a CO₂ vent on the condenser prevents dissolved gases from entering the distillate. A thermostatic low-water protection switch cuts off the heating as soon as the cooling water flow is too low. The distillation flask is easily accessible for cleaning. If you do not require automatic level monitoring, this simple design without electronics on the storage tank will suffice.
Compact and economical in cooling water consumption
Without accessories, the PD 4 measures just 280 x 250 x 490 millimetres and weighs 8 kilograms net; when packed, it weighs 10 kilograms. The maximum heating output is 3 kilowatts, whilst cooling water consumption is 0.67 litres per minute, the lowest figure in the Puridest Mono series. The cooling water connection works with a pressure differential from 1 bar, and the maximum pressure is 2 bar; both the inlet and outlet hoses have a 1/2-inch thread. The unit operates on 230-volt alternating current via the angled Schuko plug; a three-phase power supply is not required.
Water quality according to DAB and pharmacopoeia
The conductivity of 2.3 µS/cm at 25 °C is significantly lower than that of normal tap water, making it suitable for applications that require high-purity, low-gas, germ-free and pyrogen-free water. According to the manufacturer, the Puridest series complies with the regulations of the German Pharmacopoeia (DAB) as well as international pharmacopoeia standards. No specially trained personnel are required for commissioning, and routine maintenance is also straightforward. Furthermore, the unit does not impose high demands on the quality of the raw water supplied to it.
Typical applications
- Direct water supply for sample preparation and reagent dilution at the laboratory bench
- Supplement to the drinking water supply where no central ultrapure water system is available
- Research and development with varying, smaller daily requirements for distillate
- Training and teaching, where a simple setup without a storage tank is sufficient
Which Puridest model is right for you
For those who prefer to have distillate on hand automatically rather than collecting it as it flows, the Puridest PD 4 R offers the same hourly output with an integrated 8-litre storage tank and tap. For higher demand, the Puridest PD 8 R with 8 litres per hour and the Puridest PD 12 R with 12 litres per hour are available, both with a three-phase connection. Where contact with stainless steel needs to be avoided, the structurally identical Puridest PD 4 G is available, featuring glass contact parts.
