LAUDA Puridest PD 8 R Mono Distillation Apparatus, 8 L/h, 16-Litre Storage Tank, L003015

Compared with the PD 4 R, the LAUDA Puridest PD 8 R doubles the production capacity to 8 litres of distillate per hour and stores the distillate in a built-in 16-litre tank. The conductivity of the mono-distillate remains at 2.3 µS/cm at 25 °C, which is pure enough for reagent dilution and sample preparation according to DAB regulations and international pharmacopoeia standards. To achieve this higher throughput, the unit requires a 400-volt three-phase power supply rather than a standard mains socket.

More supply for multiple workstations

With a capacity of 16 litres, the storage tank also covers periods of increased demand, such as when several workstations are supplied from the same unit, as it holds twice the unit’s hourly output. The tap can be used for both continuous dispensing and short bursts; a solenoid valve regulates the water supply to the tank. If the water level drops after dispensing, the electronic level sensor detects the requirement and the unit automatically replenishes the supply. The condenser is located inside the tank itself and can be removed for replacement.

Three-phase connection and cooling water consumption

The PD 8 R is connected to the mains via a red CEE plug according to IEC 60309, rated at 16 amps, five-pin for 400 volts with a neutral and earth conductor. The heater draws a maximum of 6 kilowatts; the cooling water flows through at a rate of 1.2 litres per minute, with a pressure differential of between 3 and 7 bar. The inlet and drain have different thread sizes: 1/2 inch on the inlet and 3/4 inch on the drain. The unit weighs 34 kilograms net, and its footprint measures 780 x 410 millimetres.

Contamination monitoring and water saving

If the distillation flask becomes contaminated, an electronic monitoring system detects this, stops the distillation process and displays a visual prompt to clean the unit. A thermostatic safety device also intervenes should the cooling water supply be interrupted, protecting the heating element from running dry. As the unit switches off automatically once the fill level is reached, no water continues to flow through unnecessarily.

Which Puridest model is right for you?

If a smaller supply is sufficient, the Puridest PD 4 R offers the same automatic operation at 4 litres per hour with an 8-litre storage tank, powered by a standard Schuko socket. For even higher demand, there is the Puridest PD 12 R with 12 litres per hour and a 24-litre storage tank. Where contact with stainless steel needs to be avoided, the structurally identical Puridest PD 8 G with glass contact parts is available; for higher purity requirements, the Puridest PD 8 D with bi-distillation is available.
