The Macherey-Nagel VISOCOLOR soil reagent case with PF-3 Soil and accessories contains the PF-3 Soil compact photometer, reagents for ammonium, potassium, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate and pH, and the equipment for sample preparation. According to the manufacturer, it is developed for soil analysis both in the laboratory and in the field. According to the manual, the methods provide sufficient accuracy for a quick assessment of nutrient conditions in the soil.

Ammonium, potassium, nitrate and phosphate are measured photometrically with the PF-3 Soil. pH and nitrite are read visually using test strips, and nitrate is also available as a strip test.

The measuring ranges are given in mg/L. The PF-3 Soil takes the dilution into account and displays results in mg/kg soil, but according to the manual only if the sample has been prepared as described in the manual.
Sample preparation in the case
Two solutions are included for extraction, a calcium chloride solution (extract A) and a CAL solution of calcium acetate lactate (extract B), each as a working solution and as a stock solution. In addition there are a balance, soil sieve, shaking bottles, measuring cylinder, funnel, MN 616 ¼ folded filter papers and syringes. The manual also describes soil moisture, soil density, sieving to 2 mm and sedimentation analysis to determine soil type. Sedimentation tube, glass stamper and pyrophosphate solution are in the case.
PF-3 Soil compact photometer
The PF-3 Soil measures at three LED wavelengths (365, 450 and 660 nm) in round cuvettes with 16 mm outer diameter. The cuvette slot is open; according to the manual, the instrument is insensitive to extraneous light. It stores 50 measured values with date and time and transfers them via mini-USB; the free NANOCOLOR data export software exports the data and allows up to 10 custom methods to be created. The housing is dust-tight and waterproof to IP68 (test conditions according to the manual: 1 m water depth, 1 hour).

The VISOCOLOR soil reagent case with PF-3 Soil (934210) contains the photometer and the four photometric test kits, but no sample preparation, no pH test, no nitrite test and no workbook. Its gross weight is 2,250 g, that of this case 8,900 g. Anyone who has to prepare soil samples themselves chooses the case with accessories.
