Memmert IPP30 Peltier-cooled incubator, 32 L, SingleDISPLAY, 0 to 70 °C

The Memmert IPP30 Peltier-cooled incubator reliably maintains samples and cultures at temperatures ranging from 0 to +70 °C – including well below room temperature, which is not possible with conventional heated incubators. With an internal capacity of 32 litres, the unit is suitable for smaller sample quantities in day-to-day laboratory and research work, such as culture preparations requiring refrigerated storage or temperature-sensitive reagents.

Peltier technology for precise cooling and heating

Instead of a conventional compressor, the IPP30 utilises the Peltier principle: a Peltier element integrated into the rear wall can both cool and heat, thereby controlling the entire temperature range from 0 to +70 °C with a setting accuracy of 0.1 °C. A Pt100 sensor of DIN Class A quality (4-wire measurement) measures the temperature, whilst the electronically controlled forced air circulation ensures even distribution throughout the interior.

SingleDISPLAY: all values at a glance

The ControlCOCKPIT SingleDISPLAY shows the actual and setpoint temperatures on a high-resolution TFT colour graphic display. Log data from the integrated data logger can be read out and managed via the Ethernet interface (a time-limited trial version of the AtmoCONTROL software is available for download). For full programming, including a USB port and AtmoCONTROL software included in the scope of delivery, the TwinDISPLAY variant IPP30plus is available.

As only one sensor monitors the temperature, the SingleDISPLAY model is particularly suitable for routine applications where there is no need for redundant sensors or full process documentation via AtmoCONTROL. However, for those requiring two independent Pt100 sensors, automatic over/under-temperature protection (AutoSAFETY) and full programmability via Ethernet or USB, the IPP30plus offers these features – whilst retaining the same internal dimensions, temperature range and external dimensions.

Safety and Construction

For safety, the unit monitors the temperature electronically and additionally via a mechanical temperature limiter. The fully insulated stainless steel door with a two-point compression lock and the inner glass door allow visual inspection of the interior without disrupting the temperature through frequent opening. The stainless steel interior accommodates up to 3 shelves with a maximum total load of 60 kg (20 kg per shelf); an electropolished stainless steel wire mesh shelf is included as standard.

Compact size within the IPP series

With an internal volume of 32 litres, the IPP30 is the smallest model in Memmert’s range of Peltier-cooled incubators, which also includes the IPP55 (53 litres) and IPP110eco (108 litres) models – each also available in a SingleDISPLAY and a TwinDISPLAY version. Those who regularly cool larger sample quantities or require more shelves will find suitable alternatives featuring the same Peltier technology and the same temperature range of 0 to +70 °C. The compact external dimensions of 585 × 704 × 434 mm (width × height × depth, plus door handle and Peltier rear panel) make the IPP30 easy to integrate even into laboratories with limited floor space.

Operating conditions and installation

The IPP30 is designed for operation at ambient temperatures between +16 and +40 °C and a maximum relative humidity of 70 per cent (non-condensing), up to an installation altitude of 2,000 m above sea level. It can be connected to either 230 V or 115 V (50/60 Hz) with a power consumption of around 140 W – a comparatively low energy requirement resulting from the efficient Peltier principle compared to conventional compressor cooling. With a net weight of around 40 kg, the unit can be moved to its intended installation location without the need for technical lifting aids.

Typical applications

As a Peltier-cooled incubator with a temperature range of 0 to +70 °C, the IPP30 is suitable for applications that conventional heated incubators cannot accommodate:

• Storage/incubation of temperature-sensitive samples and cultures below room temperature
• Microbiological cold incubation, e.g. for psychrophilic/cold-loving organisms
• Temperature-stable storage of reagents and reference materials in the laboratory
• Quality assurance and research requiring reproducible temperatures above and below room temperature

Particularly in smaller laboratories with limited space, the IPP30 often replaces two separate units: a conventional heating incubator for temperatures above room temperature and an additional cooling unit for lower temperatures. As the Peltier element can both heat and cool, a single unit covers both applications – an advantage that directly translates into savings in floor space and procurement costs.
