Memmert IPP55 Peltier-cooled incubator, 53 L, SingleDISPLAY, 0 to 70 °C

When cultures or reagents need to be kept at a constant cool temperature overnight without having to reserve a separate fridge in the laboratory, the Memmert IPP55 Peltier cooling incubator reliably takes care of this task: it maintains samples and cultures at precise temperatures between 0 and +70 degrees Celsius, even well below room temperature. With an internal volume of 53 litres, the unit offers significantly more capacity than the compact IPP30 series and is therefore suitable for laboratories that regularly need to store or incubate larger quantities of samples or several parallel batches at cool temperatures.

Peltier cooling instead of a compressor

Instead of a conventional compressor-based cooling system, the IPP55 operates using a Peltier element integrated into the rear panel, which both cools and heats. A single system thus covers the entire set temperature range from 0 to +70 degrees Celsius, with a setting accuracy of 0.1 degrees Celsius. A Pt100 sensor of DIN Class A quality, measured using the 4-wire method, provides the basis for temperature control. A Peltier-powered recirculation fan forces the air inside the chamber to circulate and distributes it evenly throughout the interior.

SingleDISPLAY: all values at a glance

The ControlCOCKPIT SingleDISPLAY clearly displays the actual and setpoint temperatures on a TFT colour graphic display. The log data from the internal data logger can be read out and managed via the integrated Ethernet interface; a time-limited trial version of the AtmoCONTROL software is available for download for this purpose. The TwinDISPLAY variant IPP55plus is available for full programming, including a USB port and the supplied AtmoCONTROL software without the need for a separate licence.

Safety, door and interior

In addition to the electronic temperature control, a mechanical temperature limiter monitors operation, ensuring that a second, independent safety level remains active even in the event of a fault in the electronic control system. The fully insulated stainless steel door, featuring a two-point locking mechanism and an inner glass door, allows for visual inspection of the interior without having to open the outer door every time, thereby avoiding disruption to the internal temperature. The interior accommodates up to 4 shelves with a total load capacity of 80 kilograms – a maximum of 20 kilograms per shelf – allowing several sample series to be arranged side by side in a clear and organised manner. An electropolished stainless steel wire shelf is included as standard; additional wire shelves can be ordered as required.

Dimensions and Capacity

With internal dimensions of 400 × 400 × 330 millimetres (depth reduced by 10 millimetres due to the built-in fan), the IPP55 offers sufficient space for several wire shelves stacked on top of one another. The external dimensions of 585 × 784 × 514 millimetres are increased by 56 millimetres due to the door handle and by a further 111 millimetres in depth due to the Peltier rear panel, which must be taken into account when planning the layout in the laboratory. With a connected load of around 275 watts (230 V or 115 V, 50/60 Hz) and a net weight of approximately 52 kilograms, the unit sits between the compact IPP30 series and the large-volume IPP110eco model, whilst remaining easy to handle for transport into an existing laboratory with a gross weight of around 71 kilograms.

Data logging for documentation and quality assurance

Via the Ethernet interface, the internal data logger continuously records the temperature history, enabling cooling incubations to be traced and documented retrospectively, for example for internal quality assurance records or laboratory accreditations. The AtmoCONTROL software is available for download as a time-limited trial version for reading and managing the log data; for permanent, licence-free use – including full remote programming via Ethernet and USB – Memmert offers the IPP55plus, a TwinDISPLAY variant that comes with AtmoCONTROL included as standard. This distinction allows users to choose between the more streamlined SingleDISPLAY version and the fully equipped TwinDISPLAY version, depending on their documentation requirements.
