Memmert SF450plus Hot-Air Steriliser, 449 L, TwinDISPLAY – Class IIb medical device

The Memmert SF450plus hot-air steriliser is a Class IIb medical device (in accordance with MDD 93/42/EEC, transitional provisions until 31 December 2028 pursuant to (EU) 2023/607) designed for the sterilisation of medical materials using dry heat at atmospheric pressure. With an internal chamber volume of 449 litres and a temperature setting range of +20 to +250 °C, the unit is suitable for large batches and high throughput in central sterilisation departments, hospitals and industrial applications.

Precise temperature control with SetpointWAIT and HeatBALANCE

Two Pt100 sensors measure the temperature redundantly using the 4-wire measurement method (DIN Class A) with an accuracy of ±0.1 °C up to 99.9 °C and ±0.5 °C from 100 °C onwards: if one sensor fails, the second takes over automatically – ensuring additional process reliability. The SetpointWAIT function only starts the sterilisation time once the setpoint temperature has actually been reached. By adjusting the heat output distribution between the upper and lower heating groups from -50% to +50%, the heat output distribution between the upper and lower heating groups can be adjusted by -50% to +50% to adapt the heat distribution to different loads. The air turbine is electronically controlled, adjustable in 10% increments, low-noise and segment-specific; in addition, electronically controlled fresh air and exhaust air dampers ensure controlled air exchange.

Robust construction and enhanced safety

The interior is made of stainless steel with deep-drawn ribbing and is heated on all four sides; the fully insulated stainless steel door locks via a two-point compression latch. For safety, a mechanical temperature limiter (DIN 12880 Class 1) monitors the unit, triggering at around 20 °C above the maximum temperature – this can also be selected as a temperature selector monitor (Protection Class 3.1) or a temperature selector limiter (Protection Class 2) directly on the display. The additional AutoSAFETY function automatically monitors over- and under-temperature conditions at a freely selectable margin from the setpoint and triggers a visual and audible alarm in the event of a deviation. An integrated self-diagnostic system automatically detects faults. The housing is mounted on castors that can be moved and locked in place, allowing for flexible use even with larger units.

Operation, interfaces and documentation

The SF450plus is controlled via the ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY: an adaptive digital PID microprocessor controller with two high-resolution TFT colour graphic displays and a digital timer (1 min to 99 days). Programmes can be programmed, managed and transferred via the Ethernet interface or via USB using the AtmoCONTROL software – the programme sequence remains stored even after a power cut. This significantly simplifies documentation for quality management.
