With an internal volume of 360 litres, the Memmert ULT360 sits between the most compact and the medium-sized models in the ULT range, offering significantly more capacity than the ULT240 without requiring the floor space of the larger models. The interior can accommodate up to 264 2-inch cryoboxes, cooled to temperatures between -50 and -86 °C.
Greater capacity whilst maintaining the same width as the ULT240
At 700 millimetres wide, the housing is just as narrow as the ULT240, but gains its additional capacity through its height and depth: With an internal height of 1,276 millimetres (instead of 1,111) and an internal depth of 627 millimetres (instead of 489), the usable volume is 360 litres. Externally, the unit measures 700 x 1,992 x 888 millimetres, and its net weight is around 285 kilograms.
Operation via the 7-inch touchscreen
Like all models in the series, the ULT360 is operated via a 7-inch touchscreen in the outer door. The temperature can be set to within 0.1 °C; it is monitored by a Pt1000 sensor, whilst Ethernet LAN and USB serve as interfaces for connectivity. In the event of a power failure, a backup battery takes over monitoring and triggers a visual and audible alarm if necessary.
Cascade cooling with two compressors
Two compressors connected in cascade cool the interior down to -86 °C; the first stage operates with the refrigerant R455A, the second with R170, and the condenser is air-cooled. The insulated stainless-steel external doors are secured with a mechanical door lock; a door-open detection system signals when doors are open, whilst a side pressure-relief vent with a diameter of 26 millimetres equalises pressure differences when the door is opened.
Transport and installation
The ULT360 must also be transported in an upright position only; when packed, it measures 1,080 x 2,220 x 1,080 millimetres and weighs approximately 370 kilograms. At the installation site, the unit is positioned on its castors and then locked into place. The three height-adjustable shelves can each support up to 160 kilograms, whilst the unit as a whole can support up to 320 kilograms.
ULT240 or ULT500: which size is right?
If 162 boxes are sufficient in the long term and a compact footprint is the main priority, the smaller ULT240, with a cabinet depth of 738 millimetres rather than 888 millimetres, is the more suitable choice. If it is foreseeable that more capacity will be required, the ULT500, with a capacity of 506 litres, space for up to 384 boxes and an 850-millimetre-wide housing, is closer to your actual needs.
