The MXT-1 70105 is a metal capillary column with a non-polar phase of crosslinked dimethyl polysiloxane. It has a length of 15 m, an inner diameter of 0.25 mm and, at 0.10 µm, the thinner of the two films available in the shop. The tube is made of stainless steel with a Siltek coating.

The MXT-1 is a Siltek-coated stainless steel capillary column (WCOT). It combines the strength of metal with the inertness of glass. The coils have the standard diameter of 4.5 inch.
The phase is a non-polar, crosslinked dimethyl polysiloxane. The USP phase classes are G1, G2, G9 and G38. Known comparable phases from other manufacturers are Agilent DB-PS1 and Quadrex UAC-1 and UAC-1MS.
Temperature range
The column can be used from -60 °C. 360 °C is permitted isothermally and 430 °C in a temperature program. The limits are the same as for the 0.25 µm version 70120, and the range from -60 °C allows low starting temperatures in a program.
Dimensions and temperature data
The 15 m describes the capillary tube, 0.25 mm the inner diameter and 0.10 µm the thickness of the phase film on the tube wall. Crosslinked means that the polymer chains of the phase are linked. Isothermal stands for a constant oven temperature, programmed for a run according to a temperature program.
0.10 µm or 0.25 µm film
Both MXT-1 columns in the shop have 15 m length and 0.25 mm inner diameter. The film makes the difference: 0.10 µm here, 0.25 µm for 70120. Retention times change when the film thickness changes, so an existing method has to be revalidated.

Typical applications
The MXT-1 is intended as a general-purpose column for solvent impurities. Other fields of use are PCB congeners (for example Aroclor mixtures), gases, odorants for natural gas, sulphur compounds, hydrocarbons and oxygenates. In addition there are high-temperature chromatography, field instruments, process GCs and GCs with small ovens.
