Restek Rtx-5 GC Capillary Column, 30 m, 0.32 mm ID, 1.00 µm, 10254

Product information "Restek Rtx-5 GC Capillary Column, 30 m, 0.32 mm ID, 1.00 µm, 10254"

The Rtx-5 is a general-purpose capillary column with crosslinked diphenyl dimethyl polysiloxane as the stationary phase, low polarity, coated onto fused silica. This version is 30 m long, has an inner diameter of 0.32 mm and a film thickness of 1.00 µm. With 0.32 mm ID and 1.00 µm film it differs from the 0.25 mm columns of the Rtx-5ms and Rxi-5ms.

Phase and polymer quality

During manufacture, all catalyst residues and low-molecular-weight fragments are removed from the polymer. What remains is a narrow, monomodal molecular weight distribution, and column bleed is extremely low. The phase carries the USP designations G27 and G36. Comparable phases from other manufacturers include Agilent DB-5 and HP-5, as well as Agilent CP-Sil 8 CB, Phenomenex ZB-5, Quadrex 007-5 and Supelco Equity-5. Comparable column part numbers are Agilent 123-5033 and 19091J-213 as well as Phenomenex 7HM-G002-22.

Temperature range

The column can be used from -60 °C to 325 °C isothermal and up to 350 °C in a temperature program. The first temperature value applies to isothermal operation, the second to temperature programs. The Rtx-5ms and Rxi-5ms in the shop can be used up to 330 °C isothermal, but have 0.25 mm ID and 0.25 µm film thickness.

Dimensions

When choosing an equivalent column, the three dimensions matter alongside the phase: 30 m length, 0.32 mm inner diameter and 1.00 µm film thickness. For some sizes the Rtx-5 is also available as an Integra-Guard version with a built-in guard column.

Typical applications

The Rtx-5 is designed as a general-purpose column, for pharmaceuticals among other uses. Other fields of use are solvent impurities, pesticides, hydrocarbons, PCB congeners (for example Aroclor mixtures), essential oils and semivolatiles.

To clarify the terms: PCB congeners are the individual polychlorinated biphenyls, and Aroclor is the trade name of technical PCB mixtures. Semivolatiles (SVOCs) are compounds with a higher boiling point than the classic volatile organic compounds.

Individual requirements and procurement service

Restek offers the Rtx-5 in further lengths, inner diameters and film thicknesses, plus many other phases and accessories such as liners and reference standards. LT procures them on request, including by Restek part number. For matching an existing method, phase, length, inner diameter and film thickness are what count. These four details are enough for a request.
