At 15 m length, 0.25 mm inner diameter and 0.25 µm film thickness, the Rxi-5Sil MS 13620 is the shorter of the two Rxi-5Sil MS columns in the shop. The phase has low polarity and is designed as a low-bleed GC-MS column for semivolatiles.
Silarylene phase with phenyl groups in the backbone
In the Rxi-5Sil MS, the phenyl groups are built into the polymer backbone. This silarylene design makes the phase more thermally stable, lets it bleed less and reduces its susceptibility to oxidation. Chemically, the phase is a crosslinked 1,4-bis(dimethylsiloxy)phenylene dimethyl polysiloxane. The table lists the USP phase classes G27 and G36.
Comparable phases from other manufacturers are Agilent DB-5msUI, Phenomenex ZB-5MSplus and SLB-5ms from Supelco (Millipore Sigma). Comparable part numbers are Agilent 122-5512UI and Phenomenex 7EG-G030-11.
Temperature limits
The column starts at -60 °C. 320 °C is permitted isothermally and 350 °C in a temperature program. The range from -60 °C also allows low starting temperatures in a program; the limits apply to both lengths.
The specifications at a glance
The length of 15 m refers to the capillary tube, the inner diameter of 0.25 mm to the clear diameter, and the film thickness of 0.25 µm to the thickness of the phase layer on the tube wall. Crosslinked means that the polymer chains of the phase are linked to one another. Isothermal means operation at a constant oven temperature, programmed means operation with a temperature program.
15 m or 30 m
Both Rxi-5Sil MS columns in the shop have 0.25 mm inner diameter and 0.25 µm film thickness. They differ in length. Anyone transferring a running method to the other length should revalidate it, because retention times change.

Typical applications
The column is intended for GC-MS analysis of semivolatiles. Polycyclic aromatic compounds, chlorinated hydrocarbons, phthalates, phenols and amines are named, as well as organochlorine and organophosphorus pesticides, pharmaceuticals, solvent impurities and hydrocarbons.
