Bandelin, BactoSonic BS 14.2 ultrasonic bath, 13.5 litres, #3290

Product information "Bandelin, BactoSonic BS 14.2 ultrasonic bath, 13.5 litres, #3290"

Specialised ultrasonic bath for the gentle removal of biofilms

The success of treatment for implant infections depends on an accurate microbiological diagnosis. Because microorganisms form biofilms on foreign bodies, they are often difficult to detect in the surrounding tissue. This limits the options for treatment.

With the help of the BactoSonic specialised ultrasonic bath, biofilms can be gently removed from the surface of an infected implant. Compared to other ultrasonic baths, the device operates at a low frequency and low intensity. This ensures that the detached microorganisms are not destroyed but are preserved for subsequent microbiological analysis.

In accordance with the scientifically validated procedure, the implant is placed in a box (included in the scope of delivery), covered with liquid and sonicated in the BactoSonic specialised ultrasonic bath. The resulting liquid is subjected to microbiological analysis and the bacterial load is quantified. Up to 10,000 times more bacteria can be detected than with conventional methods, such as those used on biopsies of periprosthetic tissue. Mixed infections and different bacterial morphotypes become easier to detect. Sensitivity is improved, particularly in patients who have previously undergone antibiotic therapy.
