Bandelin SONOREX SUPER RK 1028 CH – a high-performance ultrasonic bath with heating for everyday laboratory use

The SONOREX SUPER RK 1028 CH is a heated ultrasonic bath manufactured by Bandelin, designed for the daily cleaning, degassing and preparation of samples and instruments in the laboratory. With a volume of 45 litres (usable capacity 30 litres) and an ultrasonic frequency of 35 kHz, the unit is suitable for larger batches and bulkier loads, such as when cleaning laboratory glassware, small parts, tools and medical instruments.

The integrated heater allows for stepless temperature adjustment from 30 to 80 °C, thereby supporting applications where heat accelerates the cleaning process or promotes chemical reactions – such as when dissolving stubborn residues or degassing solvents prior to analytical procedures. The fully automatic SweepTec function prevents standing waves in the ultrasonic field, ensuring uniform sound distribution throughout the entire tank volume, even with irregularly shaped loads.

Thanks to its large tank capacity and powerful ultrasonic cleaning, the RK 1028 CH is suitable for a wide range of applications in laboratory and workshop environments: from the routine cleaning of laboratory glassware such as flasks, beakers and pipettes, through to the cleaning of small parts used in sample preparation, and the pre-cleaning of medical instruments prior to further processing. The unit can also be used for the degassing of liquids and solvents prior to analytical applications, such as in sample preparation for HPLC, as the ultrasonic energy reliably expels dissolved gases from the liquid. The adjustable heating function supports processes in which higher temperatures enhance the cleaning effect, such as when dissolving fats, oils or dried-on residues.

Operation and Design

Cleaning duration and bath temperature are set using a simple rotary control; the timer covers a range of 1 to 15 minutes (±5 %) as well as continuous operation. A fill-level mark in the tank facilitates correct filling. For draining, the unit features a G ¾ ball valve with a 50 cm hose on the left-hand side; side handles facilitate transport. The tank and housing are made of stainless steel (tank: 1.4404, welded, 2.0 mm wall thickness; housing: 1.4301); the unit is fitted with a 2 m long, permanently attached mains cable.

The robust stainless steel construction of the tank and housing ensures durability in daily laboratory use and makes cleaning the unit itself easier. The ball valve fitted on the side, complete with a drain hose, allows for controlled, clean emptying of the basin directly at the workstation or into a connected container, without having to tilt or lift the unit. With an IP 32 protection rating and CE conformity as a Class I medical device, the unit is also suitable for regulated laboratory use.
