Product information "Binder BF 720 Standard Incubator with forced air circulation, 734 litres, 9010-0321"
The Binder BF 720 is the largest model in the BF series of BINDER standard incubators and, with a usable volume of 734 litres, offers the highest capacity in the entire series. As a large floor-standing unit, the BF 720 is designed for laboratories that need to handle a high sample throughput, such as in serial testing or large-scale cell culture experiments. The temperature range extends from 7 to 10 °C, through room temperature, up to 100 °C, enabling the unit to reliably handle standard incubation tasks in microbiology, cell culture and food testing, even with large sample volumes.
Uniform temperature distribution through active air circulation
With an internal volume of 734 litres and a corresponding number of shelf levels, active air circulation is particularly important to prevent temperature variations between the individual levels. Unlike BINDER’s BD models, which use natural convection, the fan in the BF 720 ensures that temperature conditions remain consistent throughout the entire, spacious interior, even when the unit is fully loaded. For laboratories with a high sample throughput that rely on reproducible incubation results across many parallel runs, this is a crucial factor.
Large floor-standing unit for high sample throughput
With external dimensions of 1,165 x 870 x 1,590 mm (W x D x H) and a weight of 166 kg, the BF 720 is a significantly larger floor-standing unit than the other BF models and consequently requires more floor space in the laboratory. The connected load is 1.75 kW – the highest figure in the BF series – and it operates at 230 V. The BF 720 is therefore designed for laboratories that regularly need to incubate very large quantities of samples simultaneously.
Typical applications
- High-throughput screening in microbiological diagnostics
- Extensive cell culture experiments with many parallel batches
- Large-volume screening tests in food testing
- Laboratory operations with consistently high sample throughput in quality assurance and research
Selection guide: choosing the right model size from the BF series
At 734 litres, the BF 720 is the largest model in the BF series:
| Model | Useful volume | External dimensions (W x D x H) | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| BF 056 | 59 l | 560 x 565 x 625 mm | 39 kg |
| BF 115 | 114 l | 710 x 605 x 725 mm | 54 kg |
| BF 260 | 257 l | 810 x 760 x 845 mm | 85 kg |
| BF 400 | 400 l | 1,235 x 765 x 1,025 mm | 145 kg |
| BF 720 (this unit) | 734 l | 1,165 x 870 x 1,590 mm | 166 kg |
If the capacity of the BF 400 is no longer sufficient for the current sample throughput, the BF 720 is the logical upgrade within the series, without having to resort to a second, separate unit. As the BF 720 requires 1.75 kW – the highest power consumption in the entire BF series – the existing power supply at the intended installation site should be checked in advance.
Distinction: BF, BD and KB series cooling incubators
For those who, given a comparable volume, prefer natural convection to active air circulation, the Binder BD 720, with a capacity of 737 litres, offers a suitable alternative; however, given such a large interior with numerous shelving levels, the active air circulation of the BF 720 remains the better option for ensuring uniform conditions. If, in addition to incubation above room temperature, a range below room temperature is also required, the Binder KB 720 cooling incubator, with a capacity of 727 litres and a temperature range of 0 to 70 °C, covers this requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the BF 720 and the BD 720?
Both models offer almost the same usable volume – 734 and 737 litres respectively – but the BF 720 distributes heat via active air circulation, whilst the BD 720 operates using natural convection without a fan.
What is the power consumption of the BF 720?
According to the technical data sheet, the connected load is 1.75 kW, the highest figure in the entire BF series.
Is the BF 720 the largest model available in the BF series?
Yes, with a useful volume of 734 litres, the BF 720 is, according to the data sheet, the largest of the five BF models, which range from 59 to 734 litres.
Can the BF 720 also be operated at temperatures below room temperature?
No, according to the data sheet, the temperature range extends from 7 to 10 °C above room temperature up to 100 °C. For temperatures below room temperature with a similar volume, the KB 720 cooling incubator, with a capacity of 727 litres, is available.
