Product information "Binder BF 056 Standard Incubator with forced air circulation, 59 litres, 9010-0313"
The Binder BF 056 is the most compact model in the BF series amongst BINDER’s standard incubators and features active air circulation within a useful volume of 59 litres. This means the unit can be accommodated as a benchtop model even in smaller laboratory spaces, for example where there is no room for a larger floor-standing incubator. The temperature range extends from 7 to 10 °C above room temperature up to 100 °C, covering standard incubation tasks in microbiology, cell culture and food testing.
Uniform temperature distribution thanks to active air circulation
Unlike the BD models from BINDER, which operate using natural convection, the BF 056 is equipped with an active air circulation system. A fan continuously mixes the air inside the chamber, thereby reducing temperature differences between individual shelf levels. For applications in which several samples are to be incubated simultaneously under as identical temperature conditions as possible – such as comparative series in microbiology or parallel cell culture experiments – this represents a significant practical advantage over the simpler BD model with natural convection.
Compact design for laboratory benches with limited space
With external dimensions of 560 x 565 x 625 mm (W x D x H) and a weight of 39 kg, the BF 056 can be placed on a laboratory bench as a benchtop unit without taking up much space. The connected load is 0.4 kW, and it operates on 230 V. Within the BF series, the BF 056 is the entry-level model; for larger sample volumes, LT Laborhandel offers further sizes with a useful volume of up to 734 litres.
Typical applications
- Incubation of culture media and agar plates in routine microbiological diagnostics
- Cell culture preparations in smaller batches
- Shelf-life and bacterial count determinations in food testing
- Incubation tasks in teaching and training where space is limited
Selection guide: choosing the right size from the BF series
With a capacity of 59 litres, the BF 056 is the entry-level model in the BF series, which comprises a total of five sizes ranging from 59 to 734 litres:
| Model | Useful volume | External dimensions (W x D x H) | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| BF 056 (this unit) | 59 l | 560 x 565 x 625 mm | 39 kg |
| BF 115 | 114 l | 710 x 605 x 725 mm | 54 kg |
| BF 260 | 257 l | 810 x 760 x 845 mm | 85 kg |
| BF 400 | 400 l | 1,235 x 765 x 1,025 mm | 145 kg |
| BF 720 | 734 l | 1,165 x 870 x 1,590 mm | 166 kg |
For smaller sample quantities on limited laboratory bench space, the BF 056 is a suitable compact benchtop unit. If requirements increase – for example, because more samples need to be incubated simultaneously on a regular basis – the BF 115 offers a model with almost double the volume whilst occupying a similar footprint; larger sample batches can be accommodated by the BF 260, BF 400 or BF 720.
Distinction: BF, BD and KB-series cooling incubators
If you are looking for a unit of a similar size with natural convection rather than forced air circulation, the Binder BD 056 with a 57-litre capacity is the ideal alternative; however, for comparative series under identical conditions, the forced air circulation of the BF 056 remains the better option. If, in addition to incubation above room temperature, a range below room temperature is also required, a cooling incubator such as the Binder KB 065 – with a temperature range of 0 to 70 °C – is the appropriate choice instead of the BF 056.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the BF 056 and the BD 056?
Both models offer virtually the same usable volume at 59 and 57 litres respectively; the BF 056 distributes heat via active air circulation, whilst the BD 056 operates using natural convection without a fan.
Is the BF 056 the smallest model in the BF series?
Yes, with a usable volume of 59 litres, the BF 056 is, according to the data sheet, the entry-level model of the five BF sizes ranging from 59 to 734 litres.
Does the BF 056 fit on a standard laboratory bench?
With external dimensions of 560 x 565 x 625 mm and a weight of 39 kg, the BF 056 is designed as a compact benchtop unit, according to the data sheet.
Can the BF 056 also cool?
No, according to the data sheet, the temperature range extends from 7 to 10 °C above room temperature up to 100 °C. For temperatures below room temperature, the KB 065 cooling incubator is the suitable compact alternative.
