Product information "Binder KBF 130 Constant-Climate Chamber, 0 °C to 70 °C, 10 % to 80 % relative humidity, 127 l, 9020-0478"
Anyone starting out with ICH stability testing on a smaller scale – for example, in formulation development or in a QC laboratory with limited floor space – does not need a room-filling climatic chamber, but rather a reliable entry-level solution for temperature and humidity testing. The Binder KBF 130 offers exactly that: 127 litres of usable volume for initial batches and small production runs, whilst featuring the same control technology as the larger models in the series. This allows standard-compliant testing to be carried out even in a small laboratory, without having to switch to a completely different operating system later on when the volume of samples increases.
The Binder KBF 130 constant climate chamber is part of Binder’s KBF series and specialises in the combined control of temperature and relative humidity. The unit covers a temperature range from 0 °C to 70 °C, combined with humidity control from 10 °C to 70 °C at 10 % to 80 % r.h.. The KBF 130 thus meets all key ICH requirements for long-term tests, accelerated tests and stress tests in accordance with ICH Q1A, from control precision and programming through to documentation. The light modules for photostability and plant growth are available from size 260 upwards; they are not intended for size 130.
Control technology, humidity control and safety features
The unit is controlled via a touchscreen controller with time-interval and real-time programming, operated via an ergonomically adjustable control terminal. Humidity is regulated by a capacitive humidity sensor in combination with responsive steam humidification. A Class 3.3 temperature selector monitor in accordance with DIN 12880, featuring visual and audible alarms, safeguards unattended test runs, whilst a signal triangle with an illuminated status indicator displays the unit’s status even from a distance. Ethernet and USB interfaces, as well as an internal data logger with an open measurement value format, enable comprehensive documentation; the APT-COM Basic Edition software is included as standard. Users wishing to integrate the analysis into an existing quality management system can, if required, supplement the software with paid editions offering extended analysis functions.
The inner chamber is made of stainless steel; the two inner doors, made of metal-oxide-coated safety glass, allow a clear view of the samples without affecting the climatic conditions. Two outer and two inner doors, each fitted with door heating to prevent condensation, together with a robust housing design featuring HIT sandwich technology, ensure a stable, well-insulated chamber that quickly returns to its set climate conditions even after frequent door openings. Cooling is provided by a modern inverter chiller using the climate-neutral refrigerant R-600a, which, according to the manufacturer’s data sheet, offers up to 40 per cent lower energy consumption compared with the previous model.
Cost-effectiveness and sustainability in continuous operation
Constant-climate cabinets generally operate continuously for weeks or months, so energy consumption has a significant impact on running costs. According to the manufacturer’s data sheet, the modern inverter refrigeration technology with a climate-neutral refrigerant saves up to 40% energy compared with the previous model, without compromising on the control accuracy of temperature and humidity. For laboratories with several climate-controlled cabinets operating in parallel, this difference adds up significantly over the service life; furthermore, the climate-neutral refrigerant reduces the environmental impact compared with older refrigerants.
Typical applications
As the most compact model in the series, the unit is particularly suitable for laboratories with limited floor space or as an entry-level solution for standards-compliant climate testing, without having to compromise on the full control capabilities of the larger models.
- Stability testing of smaller batches and sample series in formulation development
- ICH long-term and accelerated tests in accordance with ICH Q1A in pharmaceutical and cosmetics laboratories
- An entry-level solution for standards-compliant climatic testing in smaller QC departments
- Storage of reference samples and retentions under controlled climatic conditions
Two stainless steel insert racks are included as standard; if required, the chamber can be fitted with additional insert racks – including reinforced ones – up to the maximum number of inserts. External water supply systems are also available for humidity control, whilst software documentation upgrades are available up to the GLP Edition.
