A laboratory that requires a brief period of negative pressure for filtration, followed shortly afterwards by a slight positive pressure for a small dosing line, often relies on two separate units. The AirJet Mini handles both tasks with a single, compact diaphragm pump. It pumps, compresses and evacuates completely oil-free, without altering or contaminating the pumped medium.

Dry-running and oil-free

The diaphragm operates dry; there is no oil bath whatsoever, unlike in conventional rotary vane pumps. As a result, the air or gas being pumped does not pick up any traces of oil, and the pump itself does not require an oil change. The housing is made of polyphenylene sulphide (PPS), a chemically resistant high-performance plastic that remains stable even with frequent contact with neutral to slightly aggressive gases and vapours.

Vacuum pump and compressor in a single unit

Depending on which side of the pump is connected, the AirJet Mini operates as either a vacuum pump or a compressor. Via the suction side, it evacuates containers or filtration set-ups; via the discharge side, it delivers and compresses air or gas for dosing and purging tasks. A second unit for the other function is not required.

Two diaphragm materials for different media

The diaphragm is available in two versions. The version with an EPDM diaphragm is intended for general use with neutral gases and vapours; it has a flow rate of around 6 l/min. The PTFE-coated diaphragm is suitable for slightly aggressive or corrosive gases and vapours; its flow rate is slightly lower at around 5 l/min. The appropriate version depends on the medium being handled, not on the required flow rate.

Compact design for the laboratory workbench

Measuring 164 mm in length, 90 mm in width and 141 mm in height, the AirJet Mini can still find a place even on a well-equipped laboratory workbench. It is connected via a 4 mm hose nozzle, compatible with standard laboratory hose materials.

Low-maintenance operation

As no oil is involved, the typical maintenance steps required for an oil-lubricated pump are eliminated: no oil changes, no checking of the oil level, and no disposal of waste oil. This significantly reduces maintenance requirements over the pump’s service life, particularly when the pump switches between vacuum and pressure operation several times a day.

What tasks is the AirJet Mini suitable for?

It is typically used wherever small volumes of air or gas need to be moved without oil or other contaminants entering the system. This applies equally to evacuating a desiccator as it does to aerating a dosing line, where a clean, dry medium is essential.

Selecting the right diaphragm

For neutral gases and vapours, the EPDM diaphragm is the obvious choice, as it covers most standard applications. Where slightly aggressive or corrosive gases and vapours are involved – for example, near chemical storage areas or during cleaning processes – the PTFE-coated diaphragm is the more resistant option. Where in doubt, the deciding factor is chemical resistance to the specific medium, not the slight difference in flow rate between the two versions.

Connection to existing laboratory set-ups

The 4 mm hose nozzle allows the AirJet Mini to be connected to existing set-ups using standard laboratory hoses, such as a filter funnel, a desiccator or a small dosing line. It is possible to switch between the suction and pressure sides using the same hose connection without having to modify the unit.
