When sampling groundwater from a inspection chamber, the sampler must not get caught on the edge of the chamber or the inner wall whilst being lowered; otherwise, the sampling process will be delayed or the sample will be contaminated by contact with foreign material. The AquaSampler is designed for standard well shafts with an inspection opening of 2 inches or larger and can be inserted and withdrawn without jamming, even if the shaft is several metres deep.

Ultra-pure material for sensitive analysis

The AquaSampler is made from ultra-pure FEP/PTFE with a non-stick surface. This reduces the risk of residues from a previous sample adhering to the inner wall and contaminating the next sample, which is particularly relevant in trace analysis, where even the smallest contaminants can distort the measurement result.

Suitable for 2-inch shafts without jamming

With an external diameter of 45 millimetres, the AquaSampler fits through the inspection openings of standard well shafts from 2 inches upwards. Rounded edges and a threaded connection further facilitate cleaning between two sampling operations at different measurement points.

Three sizes for different sampling requirements

The AquaSampler is available in three volumes: 350, 700 and 1,050 millilitres. The small size is sufficient for individual parameters or rapid on-site tests, whilst the larger volumes are suitable for samples that are analysed for several parameters simultaneously in the laboratory or where part of the sample is retained as a reference sample. The larger the collection container, the less frequently it is necessary to take further samples from the same sampling point, which reduces the time required per sampling point in the case of deep or hard-to-reach shafts.

Autoclavable for reuse

According to the manufacturer’s specifications, the AquaSampler is autoclavable and can therefore be fully sanitised between sampling sessions at different measurement points. For practical use at the measurement point, a PTFE rope attachment sleeve is included, which allows the sampler to be secured to the shaft rope without any metal parts coming into contact with the sample.

Why use a specialised sampler for wells and manholes?

An open scoop or a submersible vessel for liquids from accessible containers is virtually impossible to handle in a narrow inspection shaft several metres deep. The AquaSampler is specifically designed for this situation: slim enough to fit through the manhole opening, fitted with a rope attachment for lowering and raising, and made from a material that leaves no residues on the sample when it comes into contact with the manhole wall.

Groundwater monitoring across multiple sampling points

When sampling is carried out at several wells or inspection shafts as part of a monitoring programme, ease of handling in hard-to-reach locations is just as important as sample purity. Rounded edges, a lightweight plastic body and ease of cleaning make the AquaSampler practical for recurring campaigns at varying sampling points.

Sampling procedure

The AquaSampler is attached to the PTFE rope-fastening sleeve and lowered into the shaft until it reaches the desired depth in the water body. Once filled, it is hauled back up using the same rope, without hands or tools coming into contact with the sample. For the next sampling point, autoclave sterilisation is sufficient before the sampler is reused.
