Product information "Bürkle Immersion Bomb Sampler, brass, 1,000 ml, 5365-7000"
For crude oil, fuels or heating oil, a sampler is required that operates safely in potentially explosive atmospheres whilst still sinking quickly to the bottom of a tank. The brass immersion sampler is designed specifically for these petroleum products; it is made entirely of non-sparking, nickel-plated brass and is available in two capacities: 500 and 1,000 ml.
Robust housing for rapid descent
The immersion bomb’s heavy weight of 3.0 to 4.3 kg ensures that it sinks rapidly to the desired depth, even when there is a current in the tank. The upper section can be unscrewed, allowing the immersion bomb to be opened completely for cleaning. A robust carrying handle facilitates handling when lowering and raising it.
Two volumes for different sample quantities
The smaller version (5365-7500) has a capacity of 500 ml and a total height of 300 mm, whilst the larger version (5365-7000) has a capacity of 1,000 ml and a total height of 450 mm. Both have the same external diameter of 75 mm and therefore fit through the same tank openings.
Use in potentially explosive atmospheres
Bürkle describes the immersion bomb as tested for use in Ex protection zone 0, for explosion groups IIA, IIB and IIC. There is no certificate number or ATEX marking available for this product; the information is taken from the manufacturer’s description.
Media for which the submersible pump is intended
Bürkle lists crude oils, liquid petroleum products, fuels, special and test petrol, heating oils, kerosene and liquid lubricants as typical media. For more general liquid samples from tanks, tank wagons or sewage treatment works, where there is no specific focus on an Ex zone, the immersion vessel made of brass or V2A stainless steel with its EasyFlow valves offers a wider range of applications. For potentially explosive atmospheres, but with a glass container for sewage treatment plant samples, there is the glass immersion bottle, and for hard-to-reach, confined spaces, the mini immersion bomb. Anyone requiring precise sampling with a descent hose will find what they need in the Target immersion bomb.
Choice of volume
If a smaller quantity of fuel or oil is sufficient for the analysis, the 500 ml version saves weight during handling and, at 3.0 kg, is easier to manoeuvre than the 1,000 ml version, which weighs 4.3 kg. For larger-scale analyses or when several analyses are to be carried out on the same sample, the 1,000-ml version provides more capacity without the need for a second dip.
Why brass in potentially explosive atmospheres
Brass is a non-sparking material and is therefore the material of choice for tools and samplers used in potentially explosive atmospheres containing flammable vapours. The nickel plating provides additional protection for the surface against corrosion caused by the fuels and oils being sampled.
Sampling procedure
The sampling bomb is lowered into the tank on a rope; it sinks rapidly to the desired depth under its own weight and is then pulled back out. Once the upper section has been unscrewed, the sample can be decanted directly, without any residues remaining in the housing that could compromise the next sampling.
Typical areas of application
- Crude oils and liquid petroleum products
- Fuels, special-purpose and test petrols
- Heating oils and petroleum
- Liquid lubricants

Variants at a glance
| Item number | Capacity | Total height | Height of collection container | Weight |
| 5365-7000 | 1,000 ml | 450 mm | 341 mm | 4.3 kg |
| 5365-7500 | 500 ml | 300 mm | 195 mm | 3.0 kg |
Proportion of the handle and collection container in the total height
Of the total height, 341 millimetres are accounted for by the collection container itself in the 1,000 ml version, whilst in the 500 ml version the figure is 195 millimetres. The difference between the respective total heights of 450 and 300 millimetres is accounted for by the carrying handle and the connector, which are of similar length on both versions. Anyone who needs to feed the submersible pump through a narrow tank opening should take into account not only the outer diameter of 75 millimetres but also the total height, to ensure that the unit does not catch on the edge of the opening when being lowered in.
Scope of delivery
- Submersible sampler (submersible bomb) in the selected volume variant
Service and procurement
The appropriate volume depends on the required sample quantity and the tank opening. LT Laborhandel stocks both versions of the submersible sampler individually and, if required, can also advise on how they differ from submersible vessels, submersible bottles and mini submersible samplers in the range – for example, if other liquids are sampled alongside fuels at the same site. If you have any queries regarding the appropriate model, please contact LT Laborhandel for assistance.
