Product information "Bürkle Immersion Vessel Sampler for Liquids, Brass, 1,000 ml, 5365-1000"
The only way to take a full-depth sample from a tank or tank wagon that truly represents the medium across its entire depth is to use a container that opens as it is lowered and closes again as it is raised. The Bürkle sampling vessel utilises flow-optimised EasyFlow flow valves and its own substantial weight to ensure rapid lowering. It is available in two material variants, brass or V2A stainless steel, each with a capacity of 1,000 ml.
EasyFlow valves for samples from all layers
The flow-optimised flow valves open when lowered due to the pressure of the water or liquid and close again when raised. In this way, the immersion vessel collects the medium across the entire immersion depth, rather than providing just a snapshot from a single depth. The high dead weight ensures rapid lowering, even in the presence of a current.
Brass or V2A stainless steel
The brass version (5365-1000) is made entirely from non-sparking brass, whilst the second version (5365-2000) is made from V2A stainless steel. Both have the same overall height of 427 mm and the same capacity of 1,000 ml, but differ in weight and external diameter.
Use in hazardous areas
Bürkle describes the immersion vessel as tested for use in Ex protection zone 0, explosion groups IIA, IIB and IIC. No certificate number or ATEX marking is available for this product; the information is taken from the manufacturer’s description.
Related immersion samplers in the range
For samples from hard-to-reach, confined spaces such as bent sounding pipes, the mini immersion sampler is the more compact alternative. Where mineral oil products and fuels are specifically concerned, the brass immersion sampler is designed for this purpose, whilst the glass immersion bottle is ideal for samples from sewage treatment works with glass containers.
Selection by material
The brass version is more cost-effective to purchase and is sufficient for most applications in tanks, tank wagons and bodies of water. The V2A stainless steel version is recommended if the sample medium corrodes brass or if stainless steel is already used throughout the operation, for example to prevent material contamination during the cleaning and storage of samplers.
Sampling procedure
The immersion vessel is lowered into the medium on a rope or chain. As it descends, liquid flows through the open EasyFlow valves, so that the vessel fills up over the entire depth travelled. When raised, the valves close and retain the enclosed sample in the container until it is transferred to a sample vessel at its destination.
Why weight matters
In flowing water or when sampling from agitated tanks, a container that is too light would be carried away by the current before reaching the desired depth. The comparatively high dead weight of 2.0 to 2.3 kg keeps the sampling vessel on a straight path downwards and ensures reproducible sampling even under difficult conditions.
Typical applications
- Full-depth samples from tanks and tank wagons
- Sampling in water bodies
- Samples from sewage treatment works

Overview of variants
| Item number | Material | Outer diameter | Height of collection container | Weight |
| 5365-1000 | Brass | 75 mm | 292 mm | 2.3 kg |
| 5365-2000 | V2A stainless steel | 76 mm | 292 mm | 2.0 kg |
Overall height and container height
The total height of 427 millimetres includes the carrying and connection bracket; the collection container itself is 292 millimetres high in both material variants. The difference between the two versions therefore lies not in their design, but in the material and the resulting weight: 2.3 kilograms for the brass version compared with 2.0 kilograms for the V2A stainless steel version. Both variants have almost the same external diameter – 75 and 76 millimetres respectively – which makes no significant difference when selecting the drain opening on a tank or tank wagon.
Scope of supply

Service and procurement
Whether brass or V2A stainless steel is the right choice depends on the medium and the budget. LT Laborhandel stocks both material variants of the immersion vessel and, if required, can also advise on how they differ from the other immersion samplers in the range – for example, if samples also need to be taken from hazardous areas or from hard-to-reach locations. If you have any queries regarding the appropriate version, please contact LT Laborhandel for further assistance.
