Product information "Bürkle, drum pump for acids and alkalis, 100 cm, 85 l/min, #5762-0100"
Pumping large quantities of low-viscosity acid from a drum using a hand pump is, at some point, simply a matter of time. The drum pump for acids and alkalis is an electrically driven centrifugal pump made of polypropylene, PVC and Hastelloy C-4, which delivers up to 85 litres per minute. Two immersion depths, 100 and 120 centimetres, are suitable for standard drums up to 220 litres.
Electric centrifugal pump instead of manual labour
Instead of one pump stroke per batch, an electric motor drives the centrifugal pump continuously. With a flow rate of around 85 litres per minute and a delivery head of approximately 19 metres of water column, the pump is designed for larger transfer volumes, where a hand-operated pump such as the Ultrarein PTFE drum pump would reach its limits. The 2-metre-long outlet hose provides additional manoeuvring space at the receiving vessel.
Materials for low-viscosity acids
The pump body is made of polypropylene and PVC, whilst the internal parts in contact with the medium are made of Hastelloy C-4 (2.4610). Bürkle lists phosphoric acid, chromic acid, battery acid and citric acid as typical media for use. The pump is expressly not suitable for hydrochloric acid, and chemical resistance should be checked against the manufacturer’s compatibility list before use.
Two immersion depths for standard drums
The 100-centimetre version and the 120-centimetre version differ solely in their immersion depth; all other technical specifications, such as flow rate, immersion tube diameter and hose length, are identical for both. The immersion tube can be adjusted continuously to the actual drum depth.
Distinction from the version for concentrated acids
For highly corrosive media such as sulphuric acid, nitric acid or hydrofluoric acid, the PP pump body of this version is not chemically suitable. For such applications, there is a drum pump of identical construction designed for concentrated acids and alkalis, featuring a pump body made of PVDF.
G 1 1/4-inch thread instead of the standard G 2-inch
Unlike most other drum pumps in the range, which fit standard drum fittings with a G 2-inch thread, this series uses a G 1 1/4-inch thread. It is therefore worth checking the existing drum fitting at the workplace before ordering to ensure the pump fits without the need for an additional adapter.
Check the compatibility list before use
Acids with similar names can vary greatly in concentration and temperature, and it is precisely these factors that determine whether polypropylene, PVC and Hastelloy C-4 remain resistant in the long term. Bürkle therefore expressly refers to its own compatibility list, which should be consulted before using the pump with a new medium for the first time. This is particularly important if an acid has previously only been transferred using a different pump model.
Yellow colour scheme for quick identification
The pump’s yellow colour clearly distinguishes it on the shelf from the stainless steel and PTFE drum pumps in the other series. In businesses that use several types of drum pump simultaneously, this helps to distinguish at a glance the correct pump for acids and alkalis from models designed for solvents or gas-tight applications.
Electric drive instead of pump stroke
Whereas a manually operated reciprocating piston pump will eventually run out of steam when handling larger volumes, the electric motor of the centrifugal pump continues to run continuously as long as the drum is supplying medium. This makes the pump the more practical choice when several drums are regularly decanted one after the other, rather than in individual small batches.
Typical applications
- Transferring low-viscosity acids such as phosphoric acid, chromic acid or battery acid
- Larger transfer volumes from standard drums up to 220 litres
- Laboratories and production facilities where acids are handled regularly
- Transferring citric acid and other low-viscosity organic acids

Regulatory information
The drum pump for acids and alkalis is an electrical appliance within the meaning of the ElektroG. Information on returns can be found under ‘Environment and Disposal’.
Service and procurement
If a manually operated solution is sufficient for smaller quantities, the Ultrarein PTFE drum pump is the more compact alternative that does not require a mains connection. For highly corrosive, concentrated acids and alkalis, the PVDF version is more suitable chemically. LT Laborhandel stocks both immersion depths separately and can advise on the selection based on the medium and drum size.
