Product information "Bürkle, Ultrarein PTFE drum pump with spout, 40 cm, #5606-0400"
Acids, alkalis and other media that corrode polypropylene or PVC require a pump made from an even more resistant material. The Ultrarein PTFE drum pump with outlet elbow is a hand-operated reciprocating piston pump whose parts in contact with the medium are made entirely of PTFE and FEP; it is highly chemically resistant and also suitable for ultra-pure liquids. Three immersion depths ranging from 40 to 95 centimetres cater for canisters and drums up to 220 litres.
PTFE and FEP materials for aggressive media
According to Bürkle, PTFE and FEP resist almost all aggressive chemicals with the exception of elemental fluorine, even in applications where polypropylene or PVC would be corroded. This makes the pump a suitable option for acids and alkalis as well as for high-purity liquids in analytical applications, where metal or plastic abrasion from the pump could contaminate the sample.
Hand-operated reciprocating piston pump without compressed air connection
Unlike the compressed-air-operated sampling system for solvents, this drum pump does not require a compressor or gas cylinder. A single pump stroke of the handle is sufficient to deliver the medium through the 32-millimetre-thick immersion tube, at a rate of between 180 and 400 millilitres per stroke, depending on the size. This means the pump can also be used where there is no compressed air supply.
Fixed spout for the workplace
The 170-millimetre-long outlet elbow is rigidly mounted and is suitable for applications where the receiving vessel is positioned directly beneath the outlet. All valves in the pump body are made from solid PTFE or PVDF. For those who wish to fill a vessel located further away using a flexible connection, the structurally identical drum pump with hose and shut-off valve offers a suitable alternative; here, an additional tap at the end of the hose also ensures drip-free shut-off after filling.
Three immersion depths, three flow rates
The shortest version, with a 40-centimetre immersion depth, is designed for canisters of up to approximately 30 litres and delivers around 180 millilitres per stroke. The medium size, with a 60-centimetre immersion depth, is suitable for containers of up to 60 litres, delivering approximately 270 millilitres per stroke. The longest version, with a 95-centimetre immersion depth, is suitable for standard 220-litre drums and delivers around 400 millilitres per stroke; the immersion tube can be infinitely adjusted to the drum depth on all three sizes.
Equally suitable for analytical work and chemical handling
In analytical applications, the most important consideration is that no metal or plastic abrasion enters the sample. In chemical dispensing, on the other hand, resistance to aggressive media over many filling cycles is key. The Ultrarein PTFE drum pump meets both requirements with the same PTFE/FEP pump body, eliminating the need to source different materials for different applications. Simply changing the size is sufficient to scale up from small laboratory containers to standard drums.
Cleaning and Reuse
The PTFE pump body can be flushed relatively easily between two different media, as the material itself absorbs hardly any residues. This is an advantage over pumps made of polypropylene or PVC, where some media remain on the surface and may continue to have an effect during the next use. Nevertheless, when switching between significantly different chemicals, it is advisable to use a separate pump for each type of medium to ensure that carry-over is completely ruled out.
Typical applications
- Filling with acids and alkalis that would corrode polypropylene or PVC
- Decanting of high-purity liquids in analytical work and sample preparation
- Use at workstations without a compressed air supply
- Decanting from small to large containers, depending on the selected immersion depth

Service and procurement
For corrosive media in larger quantities and with an electric drive, the drum pump for acids and alkalis is suitable for flow rates of up to 85 litres per minute. For media that outgas or are highly odourous, where vapours must also be contained, the gas-tight V2A drum pump is the more suitable choice. LT Laborhandel orders each immersion depth individually and advises on the selection based on the actual drum size and the medium to be transferred.
