Product information "Bürkle Drum Pump for Solvents, Electric Centrifugal Pump, Brass/stainless Steel, 5763-0301"
Decanting large quantities of ethanol, petrol, methanol or isopropanol from a 220-litre drum using a hand pump is time-consuming and, in the case of highly flammable hydrocarbons, also raises safety concerns. The drum pump for solvents is an electrically powered centrifugal pump that delivers these fluids at a rate of around 95 l per minute; the scope of delivery includes a grounding cable, as electrostatic charging poses a real risk when handling flammable liquids.
Electric centrifugal pump for highly flammable hydrocarbons
An electric motor continuously drives the pump impeller, rather than building up excess pressure in pulses as with a hand pump. This is suitable for fluids such as ethanol, petrol, butanol, isopropanol, kerosene or methanol, which need to be moved in large quantities on a regular basis in workshops, laboratories or industrial settings, without each drum having to be pumped by hand for several minutes.
For drums up to 220 l, infinitely adjustable
The 41-millimetre-diameter dip tube can be infinitely adjusted to the depth of the drum; at full immersion, it extends up to 100 centimetres into the drum. The 2-metre-long outlet hose provides reach and distance from the drum during filling, which, in the case of flammable liquids, also helps to minimise contact between the operator and the outlet. With a viscosity limit of up to 500 mPa·s, the pump is suitable for common low-viscosity solvents and fuels.
Materials and chemical resistance
Parts in contact with the medium are made of brass (MS), stainless steel 1.4301 (V2A) and polypropylene. Before use with a specific solvent, the chemical resistance of these materials to the respective medium should be checked, particularly in the case of aromatic or halogenated compounds, which can attack plastic parts more severely than pure alcohols. The black colour scheme visually distinguishes the pump from the yellow drum pump for mineral oils, making it easier to assign it to the correct medium in the warehouse or workshop.
Safety when handling flammable liquids
An earthing cable is included in the Scope of delivery so that the pump is ready for immediate use. Bürkle also draws attention to the explosion protection guidelines when handling flammable, highly flammable liquids: all parts must be earthed; in addition, the manufacturer recommends an anti-static kit. The product page does not specify a specific ATEX certification number; the information provided is intended as guidance for safe operation.
Regulatory information
The drum pump for solvents is an electrical appliance within the meaning of the ElektroG. Information on the proper return of waste electrical and electronic equipment can be found under ‘Environment and Disposal’.
If a different medium is used or no mains supply is available
For non-explosive mineral oil products such as diesel or hydraulic oil, the structurally identical drum pump for mineral oils, made from aluminium and stainless steel, is the more suitable and specifically designed choice. For acids and alkalis, drum pumps made of PP, PVC, Hastelloy or PVDF are suitable, such as the drum pump for concentrated acids and alkalis. If no mains power supply is available, or if an electric drive is deliberately avoided in the Ex zone, the compressed-air-operated dispensing system for solvents with a discharge hose covers comparable drum sizes without the need for an electric motor.
Typical applications
- Filling highly flammable hydrocarbons such as ethanol, petrol or methanol
- Decanting isopropanol, butanol or kerosene from 220-litre drums
- Businesses with regular, high-volume solvent handling
- Applications where a hand pump is no longer sufficient to achieve the required flow rate
- Workstations with a permanently installed power supply and existing earthing
- Laboratory supply and chemical storage facilities with regular drum handling

Service and procurement
For businesses that transfer not only solvents but also mineral oils or acids, LT Laborhandel puts together the right combination of several drum pump variants, rather than having to enquire about each pump individually. If you have any questions regarding material compatibility for a specific solvent, explosion protection or spare parts such as earthing cables or discharge hoses, please contact LT Laborhandel directly for assistance.
