Bürkle Immersion Bomb Target, brass, 500 ml, 5365-6000

Product information "Bürkle Immersion Bomb Target, brass, 500 ml, 5365-6000"

If you want to take a sample not just anywhere in the liquid column, but at a precise depth, you need more than just a weight on a rope. The Bürkle Target immersion bomb opens via a valve triggered at the end of a 5-metre-long venting lowering hose, and only collects the sample at the target location. This distinguishes it from the other immersion containers in the Bürkle range, which remain open throughout the descent.

Why the target depth matters

In a tank, water, sludge or different layers of product can separate from one another. A sample that absorbs liquid whilst still descending mixes these layers and skews the result. The Target immersion bomb only opens its valve once the desired depth has been reached via the hose, thereby collecting a sample from precisely that layer.

Hose, valve and rope reel included

The scope of delivery includes a 5-metre-long venting lowering hose, a valve and a rope reel. The valve is opened at the desired depth via the hose, rather than the immersion bomb taking in liquid whilst it is being lowered. This allows the sample to be taken specifically from a defined layer, such as below a surface layer or above a sediment layer.

500 millilitres with a weight of 4.2 kilograms

The collection vessel has a capacity of 500 millilitres, with an external diameter of 75 millimetres and a height of 164 millimetres. Weighing 4.2 kilograms, the Target immersion bomb is the heaviest model in this Bürkle range, which also allows it to sink rapidly over the full 5-metre length of the hose, even in deeper tanks or shafts. By way of comparison, the 500-millilitre version of the brass immersion bomb weighs 3.0 kilograms, excluding the additional hose and valve assembly.

Unscrewable top section for cleaning

Like the other immersion containers from Bürkle, the top section of the Target immersion bomb can also be unscrewed. This makes cleaning easier between two sampling operations and simplifies the changeover when sampling successively from several tanks or shafts. The polypropylene hose and valve can be cleaned separately from the brass body.

From sounding pipe to shaft

The 5-metre-long hose allows sampling from depths that are almost impossible to reach in a controlled manner using a simple immersion bottle on a bracket. The rope reel keeps the hose tidy whilst lowering and retrieving it, preventing it from becoming tangled on the edge of the tank or shaft.

When the valve system is worthwhile

A simple immersion bottle or immersion bomb is a suitable choice if the sample is taken over the entire depth or at a known, easily accessible point. However, as soon as a specific layer within a multi-layered medium needs to be targeted, such as a water phase beneath an oil layer, the valve system of the Target immersion bomb offers an advantage, as it only starts sampling at the target point and not whilst en route.

No Ex protection documented for this model

Unlike the brass immersion bomb and the other immersion vessels in this range, there is no manufacturer’s specification regarding an Ex protection zone for the Target immersion bomb. Anyone requiring precise sampling in potentially explosive atmospheres should clarify this in advance with us or opt for the Ex immersion bottle, for which Bürkle has documented suitability for Ex protection zone 0.

Typical applications

  • Precise collection of liquid samples at a defined depth
  • Sampling from deep tanks or shafts via the rope reel
  • Cases where a valve is to trigger sampling only at the target point
  • Separation of water, sludge or product layers during sampling

Service and procurement

We discuss, if required, whether the targeted Target immersion bomb or one of the simpler immersion container designs is more suitable for the specific application, particularly where explosion protection is also required. Where there are multiple measurement points at different target depths, the requirements for Target immersion bombs and hose lengths can be combined into a single order. If you have any questions regarding the trigger depth or hose length, please contact us directly for assistance.
