Not every business needs the full PharmaPicker system, comprising the case, two collection bins and all the extension rods. Sometimes, a second or third unit of the tool already in use is sufficient for an additional workstation or a parallel production line. This version comprises the standalone tool with a permanently mounted collection chamber for 0.1 to 1.2 millilitres, ready for immediate use with the smallest quantities of powder.
570 millimetres insertion depth for the smallest quantities
With a total length of 606 millimetres, a penetration depth of 570 millimetres and an external diameter of 19 millimetres, this PharmaPicker component is designed for dispensing the smallest quantities of powder from medium-sized containers. The collection bomb covers the range from 0.1 to 1.2 millilitres, the lower of the two volume ranges in the PharmaPicker system. The slim outer diameter of 19 millimetres allows it to be inserted even through narrow openings, such as inspection hatches on drums or cartons.
For highly potent and expensive powders
The small volume range proves particularly advantageous for active ingredients measured in milligrams. Instead of removing excess material – as with a scoop – which must then be disposed of or laboriously returned to the source, this sampling bomb extracts only as much powder as is actually required for analysis. For quality assurance, this means less waste of substances whose price per gramme can be many times higher than that of a standard laboratory chemical, which adds up significantly over the course of numerous sampling operations each year.
Sampling procedure
The appropriate volumetric tip is fitted to the collection bomb and set to the required volume; a member of staff then inserts the tool into the container and rotates it to the specified depth to draw the sample into the bomb. Once withdrawn, the sample can be emptied directly into an analysis vessel without the need to open the sampling bomb itself, which minimises contact with the ambient air.
Material in contact with the active substance
The component is manufactured from V4A stainless steel (1.4404, AISI 316L), tested in accordance with EU Regulation 1935/2004 for food contact. This allows for thorough cleaning between different batches and active ingredients without damaging the surface – a recurring process when formulations change, and one reason why V4A is preferred over standard V2A stainless steel in pharmaceutical sampling.
Volume tips for fine-tuning
The complete PharmaPicker range includes ten interchangeable volumetric tips ranging from 0.4 to 2.5 millilitres, five of which fall within the lower range covered here, up to 1.2 millilitres (0.4 / 0.6 / 0.8 / 1.0 / 1.2 ml). Volume tips are not included with this individual model; they form part of the complete PharmaPicker Case. Anyone who purchases the collection unit separately and already has volume tips from an existing case can combine the two at a second workstation without needing a second complete set of tips.
For the larger volume range
If the upper volume range is also required, the collection bomb for 1.25 to 2.5 millilitres is available as a separate model. Those who require both ranges together with extension rods, a case and the complete set of volume tips will find them bundled in the complete PharmaPicker Case.
