If the lower volume range of the PharmaPicker system is insufficient for a particular powder – for example, because slightly more material is required per sample to ensure a reliable analysis – this version, with its permanently fitted collection bomb for 1.25 to 2.5 millilitres, covers the upper of the two volume ranges. Like the smaller version, it is a standalone, ready-to-use tool for an additional workstation and not merely a replacement chamber.
570 millimetres insertion depth, upper volume range
With a total length of 606 millimetres, a penetration depth of 570 millimetres and an external diameter of 19 millimetres, this version has the same dimensions as the smaller variant for 0.1 to 1.2 millilitres, but differs in its collection bomb: it covers the range from 1.25 to 2.5 millilitres. The same insertion depth of 570 millimetres allows access to the same containers as the smaller version, but with a larger capacity per sample.
For powders requiring a slightly larger sample
Even 2.5 millilitres is a very small quantity compared with a conventional scoop; however, for highly active or expensive powders, it is already at the upper limit of what is practical for a representative analysis. This sampling bomb therefore covers formulations where the smaller sampling bomb would provide too little material for a reliable analysis, such as in analytical methods that require a larger sample weight than is usual for very small sample quantities.
Sampling procedure
After attaching the appropriate volumetric tip, the lance is inserted into the container and rotated to the desired depth, during which the collection bomb draws in the powder. When withdrawn, the sample remains sealed within the bomb until it is emptied in a controlled manner into an analysis vessel at the workstation, without any powder being released into the environment in the meantime.
Material in contact with the active ingredient
The component is manufactured from V4A stainless steel (1.4404, AISI 316L), tested in accordance with EU Regulation 1935/2004 for food contact. The material withstands thorough cleaning between different active substances and batches without the surface being damaged, which is one reason why V4A is preferred to standard V2A stainless steel in pharmaceutical sampling.
Volume tips for fine-tuning
The complete PharmaPicker range includes ten interchangeable volumetric tips ranging from 0.4 to 2.5 millilitres, five of which fall within the upper range covered here, between 1.25 and 2.5 millilitres (1.4 / 1.8 / 2.0 / 2.3 / 2.5 ml). These tips are not included with this individual model; they form part of the complete PharmaPicker Case. For a site that is already equipped, this collection bomb can be reused from an existing case in a second step, without having to purchase the entire case a second time.
For the smaller volume range
If the lower volume range is required instead or in addition, the collection bomb for 0.1 to 1.2 millilitres is available as a separate model.
