Bürkle PowderProof Conveyor Spiral, V4A/V2A stainless steel, powder, 30 cm, 5302-0316

Product information "Bürkle PowderProof Conveyor Spiral, V4A/V2A stainless steel, powder, 30 cm, 5302-0316"

The feed screw is the wear part in the PowderProof system; it is housed within the sampling lance and transports the sample material out of the container during sampling. If it becomes blunt or deformed, or if it needs to be adapted to a different particle size or penetration depth, it can be reordered individually without having to replace the entire lance, including the drive unit.

Replacement and conversion part in one

Eight versions cover two types of bulk material (powders with a particle size of up to 2 millimetres, and granules measuring 2 to 4 millimetres) across four penetration depths ranging from 30 to 120 centimetres. Those who regularly switch between powder and granule samples can keep both types of spiral in stock for the lance length in use, rather than having to completely readjust the feed spiral each time a change is made.

Suitable for horizontal and vertical lances

The feed spiral is the component common to both the PowderProof horizontal lance and the PowderProof vertical lance. The penetration depth of the spiral must match the respective lance length; otherwise, the replacement procedure is identical for both designs: loosen the retaining ring, remove the old spiral, insert the new one and secure it.

Seal-free, robust design

The spiral requires no seals, making it easy to clean and less prone to material build-up at junctions. The outer diameter is a standard 35 millimetres across all eight versions; the weight increases with length from around 0.2 to just over 0.7 kilograms.

When replacement is advisable

Visible wear on the spiral coils, a noticeable reduction in material flow, or the desire to switch from powder to granules are the most common reasons for replacement. As the feed spiral is the only part that comes into direct contact with the bulk material during sampling, it experiences the greatest wear within the entire PowderProof system.

Typical applications

  • Spare part in the event of wear or damage to the feed screw in the PowderProof system
  • Conversion between powder and granule conveying spirals when sample materials change
  • Stockpiling of multiple insertion depths for containers of different sizes using the same lance
  • Maintenance and servicing of motorised sampling systems in quality assurance

Stockpiling for ongoing operations

Those who use PowderProof lances regularly usually keep more than one feed spiral in stock, such as a second spiral of the same design as a spare, or additional lengths for containers of different sizes. This reduces downtime if a spiral needs to be replaced during ongoing operation, without having to wait for an order to arrive first.

Determine the size based on the lance

Which of the eight versions is suitable depends first and foremost on the lance already in use: the 30- and 60-centimetre spirals fit the shorter horizontal lance, whilst the 60- to 120-centimetre spirals fit the vertical lance with its three penetration depths. Only then does the type of bulk material determine whether the version for powder or for granules should be selected.

Scope of supply

  • Conveyor spiral in the selected version (type of bulk material and penetration depth)

Keeping an eye on the material

As with the lances, the parts in contact with the medium are made of 1.4404 (V4A) stainless steel, whilst the rest of the housing is made of 1.4301 (V2A). Bürkle also designates the material as food-grade, which makes the conveyor spiral suitable for sampling in food and pharmaceutical facilities.

Service and procurement

LT Laborhandel also supplies conveyor spirals in sets for multiple insertion depths or both types of bulk material, and can provide replacement spirals for ongoing operations where required. If the conveyor spiral reaches its limits when dealing with cohesive, clumping substances – because the material sticks to the spiral instead of being conveyed – the Scratcher powder sampler, with its scraping edge, is the more suitable alternative. If you have any queries regarding the correct auger for an existing lance, please contact LT Laborhandel for assistance.
