Bürkle PowderProof vertical sampling lance, V4A/V2A stainless steel, granules, 600 mm, 5302-0601

Product information "Bürkle PowderProof vertical sampling lance, V4A/V2A stainless steel, granules, 600 mm, 5302-0601"

A drum, a barrel or a big bag can be opened from the top, but it is virtually impossible to obtain a representative sample from the centre or the bottom of the container using a hand shovel. The PowderProof vertical lance is inserted from the top and extracts the sample material using a motorised spiral conveyor from the set depth – either 600, 900 or 1,200 millimetres.

Insertion from the top into large containers

Unlike the horizontal lance, which is inserted from the side, this version is inserted vertically from above into open containers. This is suitable for drums, barrels and big bags with unobstructed access from above, when a sample needs to be taken from a specific depth rather than just from the surface.

Three insertion depths for containers of different sizes

The 600-millimetre version is suitable for small to medium-sized drums, the 900-millimetre version for larger barrels, and the 1,200-millimetre version for tall big bags or stacked containers. As the insertion depth increases, so does the total length of the lance from 907 to 1,207 to 1,507 millimetres (see table below), whilst the weight rises accordingly from around 6.2 to up to 7.1 kilograms.

Motorised feeding instead of a hand shovel

A Bosch battery-powered drive unit drives the feed screw inside the lance, ensuring that the sample material is fed evenly from the set depth into the sample bag provided. For repeated sampling from the same type of container, this ensures a more consistent extraction than a manual tool, regardless of the operator’s manual strength.

Powders and granules for each penetration depth

For each of the three lengths, there is a version for powders with a particle size of up to 2 millimetres and one for granules with a particle size of 2 to 4 millimetres, making a total of six variants. The housing, drive unit and accessories are identical across all six; the differences lie in the feed screw, overall length and weight.

Cleaning after sampling

After use, the lance can be cleaned of any residual material using the cleaning brush supplied before it is used for the next sample. When changing materials, thorough cleaning between samples prevents residues from the previous sample from contaminating the next batch.

Typical applications

  • Sampling of free-flowing powders and granules from open containers such as drums, barrels or big bags
  • Zone sampling from a defined depth rather than just from the surface of the container
  • Incoming goods inspection of large containers in chemical and food processing plants
  • Recurring sampling with a consistent flow rate thanks to a motorised drive

Select the depth to suit the container

A 200-litre drum can usually be fully sampled using the 600-millimetre version. For taller drums or big bags with a higher fill level, the 900- or 1,200-millimetre version is the safer choice, ensuring that the sample comes from the actual centre of the container rather than just the top layer.

Regulatory information

The PowderProof vertical lance is classified as an electrical appliance under the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) due to its battery-powered drive unit. Information on return at the end of its service life can be found under ‘Environment and Disposal’. The batteries supplied must not be disposed of with general household waste, but must be returned via standard household battery and rechargeable battery collection schemes.

Service and procurement

If the container is only accessible from the side – such as a horizontal sack – the PowderProof horizontal lance is a better fit. The PowderProof feed spiral is available separately as a spare part, serving as a wear part for both lance orientations. For cohesive, non-free-flowing substances where the feed spiral reaches its limits, the Scratcher powder sampler is more suitable; for smaller manual samples without a motor, the PharmaScoop pharmaceutical scoop is recommended. LT Laborhandel stocks each of the six variants individually and, where required, coordinates their use with the horizontal lance for mixed sampling tasks.
