In the case of sacks or packaging that are inaccessible or difficult to access from above, a sampling lance, which has to be inserted vertically from above, is of little use. The PowderProof horizontal lance solves this problem with a side insertion: a motorised feed spiral draws free-flowing powder or granules directly from inside the bag without the need to open the packaging or tip it out.
Side insertion instead of access from above
The lance is inserted horizontally through the side of the bag or a side opening in the packaging until a penetration depth of 300 millimetres is reached. This method is suitable for bags that are stacked or which, for other reasons, should not be opened from the top. The total length of the lance is 607 millimetres, and its outer diameter is 25 millimetres.
Motorised drive instead of a hand crank
A Bosch battery-powered drive unit drives the feed spiral inside the lance and feeds the sample material evenly from the sack into the sample bag provided. This makes the sampling process independent of the operator’s manual strength and, when taking repeated samples from the same material, delivers a more consistent extraction than a manual tool.
Two versions for powders and granules
The lance is available in two versions, each with a feed spiral suited to the particle size of the sample material: one version for granules with a particle size of 2 to 4 millimetres, and one for finer powders up to 2 millimetres. Both versions share the same housing, drive unit and accessories; the only difference is the feed spiral and, consequently, the weight (see table below).
Material and cleaning
The parts in contact with the medium are made of 1.4404 (V4A) stainless steel, whilst the rest of the housing is made of 1.4301 (V2A). According to Bürkle, the lance is autoclavable and therefore suitable for areas with heightened hygiene requirements; a cleaning brush is included in the scope of delivery. According to Bürkle, the material is also food-safe.
Replacing the feed spiral
The feed spiral in the lance is a wear part and can be replaced using the retaining ring pliers supplied. If you frequently switch between different materials or if the feed spiral wears out, it can be reordered separately without having to replace the entire lance, including the drive unit.

Sample bags and accessories
The scope of delivery includes 100 sample bags, each with a capacity of 400 millilitres, as well as a bag clip that can be used to secure the bag to the lance during sampling. This means the lance is ready for use from the very first time it is deployed, without the need to source suitable sample containers in advance.
Regulatory information
As the PowderProof horizontal lance is powered by a battery-operated drive unit, it is classified as an electrical appliance under the ElektroG. Information on returning the appliance at the end of its useful life can be found under ‘Environment and Disposal’. The batteries supplied must not be disposed of with household waste, but should be returned via the standard household battery and rechargeable battery collection scheme.
Drive unit in everyday life
Two rechargeable batteries are supplied, along with a rapid charger, so that a flat battery can be quickly swapped for the second one during a lengthy sampling session without having to interrupt work whilst it charges. The adapter included in the scope of delivery connects the drive unit to the sampling lance and can be detached using the supplied pliers for the retaining ring, for example for cleaning or replacing the feed spiral.
Service and Procurement
For insertion into open containers, drums or big bags from above, the structurally identical PowderProof vertical lance is more suitable, with penetration depths of 600 to 1,200 millimetres. As a wear part for both lance orientations, the PowderProof feed spiral is available separately as a spare part. For cohesive, clumping substances where a feed spiral reaches its limits, the Scratcher powder sampler is more suitable. We order both lance versions and suitable replacement material, and, where necessary, coordinate the selection for different bulk materials.
