Bürkle Safety Funnel, Stainless Steel, with Flame Arrestor, 1,000 ml, 2601-9900

When decanting flammable liquids into a canister or container with a narrow opening, it is easy to spill some without a funnel, and an open plastic funnel does not protect against a flashback. The stainless steel safety funnel combines an overflow rim to prevent spillage with a flame arrestor for the safe handling of flammable liquids.

Flame arrestor to prevent flashback

The flame arrestor in the funnel prevents an ignition source at the spout from causing a flame to flash back into the container onto which the funnel is currently placed. This is particularly important when decanting highly flammable solvents, where a flammable vapour-air mixture can form in the headspace of the receiving container.

Overflow rim to prevent spillage

The overflow rim catches any liquid that spills over the edge of the funnel when pouring too quickly, rather than allowing it to run unchecked alongside the container. This reduces spillage and direct skin contact with the solvent during decanting.

Spout and connection

The funnel has a 2-inch fine thread (NPT) at the spout; the spout tube has an external diameter of 45 mm and an internal diameter of 32 mm, with a spout length of 153 mm. With a total height of 288 mm and an external diameter of 140 mm, the funnel can be placed on containers with a suitable opening without tipping over itself, provided it is handled carefully. The funnel has a capacity of 1,000 millilitres.

Material: stainless steel 1.4301

The funnel is made of 1.4301 (V2A) stainless steel with a silver finish. As the liquid only comes into brief contact with the funnel during decanting and is not stored inside it, this material is sufficient even if the receiving vessel itself is made from the more corrosion-resistant stainless steel 1.4571. Weighing 0.702 kilograms, the funnel is light enough to be held with one hand whilst decanting, whilst the other hand guides the storage vessel. After use, the funnel can be wiped clean with standard stainless steel cleaning products and stored without leaving any residue.

Avoid use near open flames and ignition sources

A flame arrestor does not replace the usual precautions when handling flammable liquids; it is an additional safety measure in the event that an ignition source is present at the outlet. Open flames, hot surfaces or tools that produce sparks must therefore still be kept away from the work area where the funnel is being used. In terms of day-to-day use, this means, above all, cleaning the funnel after use and storing it in a dry place to ensure that the flame arrester is not blocked by dried-on residues.

Selecting a suitable receiving vessel

Several models from the same Bürkle range are suitable as receiving vessels for the decanted liquid. For smaller quantities that can be easily portioned, the Bürkle stainless steel safety jug is suitable; for larger containers, the Bürkle stainless steel safety canister with screw cap is recommended. If you need to dispense directly from a larger container, the Bürkle stainless steel safety container with tap is the ideal choice. If the receiving vessel must also be approved for transport, the Bürkle stainless steel safety canister with UN approval is the appropriate option.
