Large containers of flammable liquids cannot be emptied completely every time only a small amount is required. The stainless steel safety container with a tap provides a solution for 10- and 25-litre capacities: a self-closing tap dispenses the liquid in small quantities, whilst a pressure relief valve maintains the internal pressure within a safe range during storage.

Tap for dispensing small quantities from large containers

The tap is situated on the side of the container and can be opened without having to tip or lift the entire container. It closes automatically after dispensing. A plastic lever on the screw cap can also be used to set continuous venting if continuous pressure equalisation is required when pouring larger quantities.

10 and 25 litres in different grades of stainless steel

The 10-litre container is made of 1.4571 (V4A) stainless steel with a wall thickness of 0.8 millimetres; the 25-litre container is made of the slightly simpler 1.4301 (V2A) grade with a wall thickness of 1.2 millimetres, which is sufficient for this larger volume, designed primarily for storage and transport. The 25-litre container is also stackable, which saves space when storing multiple containers in the chemicals store.

For daily use from the storage container

Whilst a safety jug or safety canister is primarily intended for transport and decanting, the safety container with a tap is usually kept in a fixed location and is repeatedly tapped from there – for example, at a workstation that regularly requires small quantities of the same solvent. The G 1 1/2-inch external thread securely holds the screw cap with the tap.

Continuous venting for controlled dispensing

When the plastic lever is set to continuous venting, the internal pressure equalises continuously whilst the liquid is being dispensed, rather than only being released when the tap is opened. This is helpful when larger quantities are being dispensed in one go and a steady flow of liquid is required. For storage purposes only, the continuous venting can be switched off again.

Choice of 10 or 25 litres

The 10-litre version is suitable for workstations with moderate consumption, where the container is still to be moved by a single person. The 25-litre version is suitable for areas with higher throughput or for a central location from which several workstations are supplied via the tap without the container itself having to be moved frequently.

Storage of multiple containers

Anyone using both the 10-litre and 25-litre versions in the same area – for example, a smaller quantity for daily use and a larger one for stock – benefits from the same tap operation for both sizes. Staff do not need to adjust to different closures, regardless of which container is currently being tapped. To maintain clarity in the chemicals store, it is advisable to clearly label the containers according to their contents, particularly when several solvents are stored in containers of the same design.

How to operate the tap correctly

The tap opens with a brief press and closes automatically when released, so no tools are required for dispensing. If the continuous ventilation is running, the flow of liquid remains steady even during several consecutive dispensing operations, rather than stalling briefly each time the tap is opened.

Service and procurement

If the container is required for transport rather than stationary dispensing, the safety canister with a screw cap, available in sizes from 5 to 20 litres, is often a better choice. For smaller quantities with a precision dispenser, the stainless steel safety jug for 1 to 5 litres is available; for a container with a tap and additional level indicator , the 10-litre safety container with tap and level indicator is suitable.
