Product information "Bürkle Stainless Steel Safety Canister, with Precision Dispenser and Vent Screw, 20 l, 2601-2020"
When dealing with larger quantities of solvent, it quickly becomes apparent just how laborious it is to top up from a 10-litre container. The stainless steel safety canister, featuring a precision dispenser and a vent screw, offers a 20-litre capacity, the next size up, and complements the precision dispenser with a manual vent screw for pressure equalisation.
Vent screw for controlled pressure equalisation
The vent screw on the screw cap can be opened manually during filling so that air flows in as the liquid is drawn off, preventing a vacuum from building up which would make pouring difficult. During storage, it remains closed; the pressure relief valve continues to ensure continuous pressure equalisation from around 0.3 bar.
Level indicator keeps track of the contents
The canister is also fitted with a level indicator. This allows you to check the contents without opening the canister or placing it on a set of scales. For a 20-litre container that is used over several days, this makes a noticeable difference compared to a container with no indicator whatsoever.
Stainless steel 1.4301 for continuous operation
For the 20-litre version, Bürkle uses 1.4301 (V2A) stainless steel with PTFE seals. V2A is compatible with most solvents commonly used in laboratories and is more cost-effective than V4A. For particularly aggressive media, the smaller 10-litre version in 1.4571 stainless steel is the more robust alternative.
Dimensions for centralised storage
With external dimensions of 345 x 175 x 470 millimetres and an empty weight of 3.7 kilograms, the 20-litre canister is significantly larger than the 10-litre version, but still fits into a safety cabinet compartment or under a fume cupboard. The fine-dose dispenser with its vent screw is securely screwed onto the G 1 1/2-inch external thread, ensuring that the canister does not open accidentally by the screw cap, even when being carried.
Vent screw in practice
The vent screw is located on the screw cap separately from the fine-control dispenser and the pressure relief valve, and can be opened or closed by hand independently of them. This becomes noticeable when dispensing larger quantities from the 20-litre canister: without the vent screw open, the flow becomes increasingly sluggish as the fill level drops, because a vacuum builds up inside. If the screw is opened before dispensing, the flow rate remains consistent throughout the entire dispensing process. After use, it is closed again so that, during storage, only the pressure relief valve is responsible for pressure equalisation.
Labelling without a specific standard
Bürkle also labels this canister as food-safe without specifying a specific standard, such as EU 10/2011, on the product page. For internal documentation purposes, it is worth checking before ordering if certification in accordance with this regulation is expressly required.
Finding the right size and design
Those who only fill smaller quantities or work with more aggressive solvents are better off with the 10-litre version made from 1.4571 stainless steel, the Bürkle stainless steel safety canister with precision dispenser. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a simple screw cap without a fine-dosing mechanism, you will find it in the Bürkle stainless steel safety canister range, which features screw caps in several sizes. Alternatively, the Bürkle stainless steel safety jug is suitable for smaller quantities that are easy to portion, complete with a carrying handle. The Bürkle stainless steel safety funnel complements the range, ensuring clean filling into narrow container openings.
Typical applications
- Filling larger quantities of flammable solvents in everyday laboratory work
- Centralised storage from which several workstations are supplied throughout the day
- Operations where the fill level needs to be checked without opening the canister
- Replacement for canisters without pressure equalisation, where a vacuum builds up during dispensing
- Weekly or batch supplies intended to last without frequent refilling from a drum
