Clearance stock: electronic leak detector for gas chromatography, including carrying case & universal mains adapter, 28500

Product information "Clearance stock: electronic leak detector for gas chromatography, including carrying case & universal mains adapter, 28500"

The Restek electronic leak detector (MPN 28500) is the recognised industry standard for performance, reliability and cost-effectiveness in portable leak detection devices for gas chromatography. In instrumental analysis (GC and GC-MS), an absolutely leak-tight flow path is essential for stable baselines and reproducible results. This compact, portable device is extremely easy to use and can be deployed flexibly wherever gas-carrying systems need to be checked for leaks. It helps analysts to locate even the smallest gas leaks quickly and accurately before they cause costly damage, column degradation or unplanned system downtime.

The technical basis of the leak detector lies in highly efficient sensor technology that reliably detects a wide range of gases. If a leak occurs at a screw connection, the injector or the gas purification stations, the device simultaneously signals the severity of the leak via a visual LED display and an audible alarm. A major advantage for uninterrupted laboratory operation: the system eliminates tedious waiting times for a full battery charge. The integrated nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery provides up to 12 hours of normal operation between charging cycles, but can also be operated continuously whilst charging if required.

The mechanical design is consistently geared towards ergonomics, durability and everyday convenience in the laboratory. The hand-held design is complemented by robust side handles, which give the device additional mechanical stability and a non-slip grip. To prevent cross-contamination and protect the sensor, the entire probe unit is easy to clean. After measurement, a practical probe storage compartment ensures cleanliness and protection. Furthermore, the device features an integrated automatic switch-off function that optimises battery power management when not in use, thereby preserving the battery’s life.

From an infrastructural and regulatory perspective, this leak detector – designed exclusively for indoor use – is comprehensively certified. It meets strict international compliance requirements such as CE, WEEE, China RoHS 2 and UKCA, and is CSA/UL-approved. The device is supplied as a turnkey complete set, including a robust transport and storage case and a comprehensive charging kit. It is technologically comparable to the older Restek models 22655 and 22839 and can be seamlessly integrated into existing test equipment set-ups. Restek provides a one-year warranty on this system.

Detection limits & LED colour coding

Gas detection limits are measured precisely in atm cc/sec. The severity level and gas type are visually indicated by the colour of the LED:

Detectable gas Minimum detection limit (atm cc/sec) Colour of the LED indicator
Helium 1.0 × 10⁻⁵ Red LED
Hydrogen* 1.0 × 10⁻⁵ Red LED
Argon 1.0 × 10⁻⁴ Yellow LED
Carbon dioxide 1.0 × 10⁻⁴ Yellow LED
Nitrogen 1.4 × 10⁻³ Yellow LED

*Note: When handling hydrogen, the laboratory-specific safety guidelines for flammable gases must be observed.

Service, Maintenance & Recalibration

To ensure the long-term maintenance of measurement accuracy, Restek offers a standardised service programme. If your device requires servicing, inspection or repair, please follow the official service procedure:

  • Scope of service: The official leak detector service (item no. 22655-R or 28500-S) includes a full inspection, replacement of the internal NiMH battery (if required) and a final metrological test of the device.
  • Procedure: Before returning the device, please send the fully completed Health and Safety form and the SRV-GC Accessories form to the manufacturer’s service department. Please do not send any devices without prior authorisation, as incomplete information may lead to significant delays.

Individual Requirements & Accessories

To maintain the maximum precision of your Restek leak detector, we offer a tailored range of peripheral products. To ensure comprehensive protection of the GC gas flow, we recommend installing Restek Super Clean gas filters directly in the supply line to reliably adsorb moisture and traces of oxygen. For the subsequent testing and calibration of carrier gas flows, we also stock the Restek ProFLOW 6000 electronic flow meter in our range. To ensure compliance with your internal test equipment monitoring requirements under ISO 9001, we also offer a manufacturer-certified recalibration service for the Model 28500. Make use of our technical procurement service to optimise your chromatography infrastructure in line with your specific needs.
