Watch components, jewellery and test tubes are among the smaller items the Select series cleans. The Elma Elmasonic Select 40 holds 3.9 litres, with a recommended working volume of 2.9 litres. It operates at 37 kHz, has a heater and stores four programs. Elma aims the Select series at research and development laboratories, pharmaceutical and industrial analytical laboratories, workshops and repair shops, metalworking companies, watchmakers and jewellers.Tank, fill level and basketThe tank measures 215 x 115 x 145 mm internally. The fill level is 115 mm, leaving 90 mm from the basket floor to the liquid level. The original accessory basket has internal dimensions of 190 x 105 x 75 mm and can be loaded with up to 3 kg. The supplied plastic lid can be turned upside down and used as a drip tray for a basket. The Select 40 has no drain connection, so no hose nozzle is included.Power and ultrasonic modesThe effective ultrasonic power is 120 W with 480 W peak power, the heater delivers 200 W, and the total power consumption is 320 W. There is a choice of five modes. Eco is the gentle mode, Sweep distributes the mechanical cleaning effect evenly, Pulse increases the peak power for stubborn soiling, Dynamic combines Pulse and Sweep, and Degas prepares the liquid for the subsequent cleaning. Auto-Degas and a temperature-controlled start are also available. Four programs store a combination of mode, duration and temperature, and the Select button calls up program operation.Operation at the unitThe large display shows duration and temperature, and settings are made via a wipe-clean membrane keypad with plus and minus keys. Every input is confirmed acoustically. The duration can be selected from 1 minute to 6 hours, the setpoint temperature from 25 to 80 °C, and there is also an adjustable limit temperature between 40 and 60 °C. Dry-run protection is active when the heating is on, and after 8 hours the unit switches off as a safety measure. The sound pressure level with lid at a distance of 1 m is below 80 dB(A). The ultrasonic pressure level is below 110 dB, also measured with lid at a distance of 1 m. The unit's degree of protection is IP20, and its protection class is I.When a different tank is suitableThe tank of the Select 40 is 215 mm long. The Elmasonic Select 60 has a tank of 280 x 130 x 145 mm and 5.9 litres total volume, plus 400 W heating power and 150 W effective ultrasonic power. Unlike the Select 40, it has a drain connection. The Elmasonic Select 80 has a tank of 475 x 110 x 145 mm, so more than twice as long with 5 mm less depth. The Easy series is designed for simple applications where a reliable, quick-to-use device is more important than programmability or multiple ultrasonic modes.Operation via a rotary knobInstead of a digital display and menus, the Easy 30H features an analogue rotary knob with ten fixed time settings ranging from 1 to 30 minutes, as well as continuous operation for up to 6 hours. LED indicators show the operating status; two ultrasonic modes, Eco and Dynamic, cover the vast majority of laboratory cleaning tasks. Those who only clean occasionally or use the unit at different workstations can use it without any training; a second glance at the manual is rarely necessary, and even new staff can be shown how to use it quickly.Compact bath for the laboratory benchThe tank has a capacity of 2.7 l; a working volume of 1.6 l is recommended, with internal dimensions of 220 x 120 x 95 mm. This is sufficient for pipette tips, small glassware, laboratory cutlery or tools, without the need to use a large amount of cleaning solution. A modular cleaning basket 30 (item no. 1108916) holds the items above the base of the tank; an insert lid (item no. 1110262) or a stainless steel lid 30/40 (item no. 1111930) are available as accessories. For larger quantities of similar small parts, a suitable Hostalen tank is also available, which is used in size 30 for the Select and P models as well.Heating and performanceThe integrated heater ranges from 25 to 80 °C with a heating power of 200 watts; the ultrasonic power is 80 watts effective with a peak power of 320 watts. The Easy 30H does not have a drain connection; to empty it, the tank is tilted or the water is scooped out into a separate container. For a unit of this size, this is generally not a disadvantage in everyday laboratory use, as the volume of water remains small. The IP20 protection rating also means that the housing itself is not designed to withstand splashing water; the unit should therefore be placed on a dry surface.Cleaning in day-to-day useA typical cleaning cycle begins by adding the cleaning solution directly into the tank; the appropriate time setting is then selected using the rotary knob, depending on the level of soiling, this ranges from a few minutes to continuous operation. The ‘Dynamic’ mode is suitable for more stubborn residues, whilst ‘Eco’ is designed for gentler routine cleaning with lower energy consumption. As no programmes are saved, the time setting is adjusted each time using the rotary knob; this does not involve any additional effort when there are only a few, clearly recurring cleaning steps.Accessories for different workpiecesDepending on the items to be cleaned, the Easy 30H can be used with a range of accessories. The modular cleaning basket 30 is suitable for loose small parts that should not rest directly on the bottom of the tank; the insert lid seals the tank during operation without obstructing access to the control panel. The optional Hostalen tank serves as an inner liner and protects the stainless steel tank when using more aggressive cleaning agents or changing the bath frequently; this really pays off, particularly with daily use. For this, the Elma Elmasonic Easy 40H has 3.9 litres total volume, 120 W effective ultrasonic power at 37 kHz and a heater with 200 W. With lid at a distance of 1 m, the sound pressure level stays below 80 dB(A). There is no drain connection. The unit is connected to the mains via an IEC power connector at 220 to 240 V~, 50/60 Hz, and it has protection rating IP20 and protection class I. The tank and housing material is stainless steel.Eco, Dynamic and fixed time stepsTwo modes are available, switchable with the mode button: Eco runs more quietly, Dynamic more intensively. The gain lies in the tank: 145 mm depth and 3.9 litres compared with 95 mm and 2.7 litres on the 30H. The Elma Elmasonic P 30H switches between 37 and 80 kHz, meeting both requirements with a single unit, whilst offering a 2.75-litre tank capacity for smaller sample volumes. The matching modular cleaning basket 30 (item no. 1108916) has internal dimensions of 198 x 106 x 50 mm and is designed to hold up to 1.0 kg, making it suitable for smaller sample batches, individual sensors or several components at once. A drain tap (G 3/8 inch) facilitates the change of cleaning medium between batches; this connection is not included on the P 30H SE variant.Procedure for analytical cleaningIn practice, the sample is first cleaned of coarser residues at 37 kHz, followed by gentler fine cleaning of more sensitive surfaces at 80 kHz.
