Product information "Eppendorf Research plus multi-channel pipette, 8-channel, 120–1200 µL, dark green, 3125000214"
The Eppendorf Research plus multichannel pipette, 8-channel, 120–1200 µL, dark green, is the standard mechanical model for high-throughput work on microtitre plates. Eight channels mean working column-by-column rather than row-by-row: A plate column or an 8-well PCR strip is reduced to a single stroke, which is particularly advantageous when transferring samples from the thermocycler to a subsequent plate. The 120–1200 µL volume range is designed for medium changes in cell culture and larger volumes of reagents, such as when transferring culture medium to several wells of a deep-well or culture plate simultaneously. As a mechanical ‘Research-plus’ version, it features a spring-loaded tip cone that seals reliably even with wells of slightly varying depths, and can be autoclaved as a complete unit at 121 °C and 1 bar overpressure, without the need for a battery or software. The matching epT.I.P.S. 50–1200 µL dark green, 103 mm tip is intended for use with this model; the order number for this version is 3125000214. The dark green colour code on the 8 tip cones corresponds to the volume colour coding used by Eppendorf for this range and makes it easier to identify the correct epT.I.P.S. tips in the tip rack.
Typical applications
The Research plus multichannel pipette, 8-channel, 120–1200 µL, is primarily used in day-to-day laboratory work for the following tasks, where the same volume needs to be dispensed repeatedly into several wells:
- Changing the medium in cell culture across several wells simultaneously
- Transferring entire PCR strips or plate columns in a single stroke
- Transferring larger volumes of reagents into deep-well plates
- Preparation of stock solutions and dilutions in the millilitre range
- Workstations where the dark green colour-coding of the 8-channel tips is used for quick identification in the tip rack
Selection guide
For very high well counts (384-well), the same series also offers a 16- or 24-channel version, which serves more wells simultaneously per stroke. Within the 120–1200 µL range, the 12-channel variant is also available, which is practical for higher throughput with 96-well plates. If, instead of the mechanical piston stroke, a single-button operation is required for the same number of channels and the same volume, the Eppendorf Reference 2 is the suitable alternative in the range. If you have any queries regarding the appropriate number of channels or the suitable volume range for your own workflow, LT Laborhandel’s procurement service will be happy to assist. For programming functions, multiple dispensing modes or battery operation, LT Laborhandel also stocks the electronic Eppendorf Xplorer/Xplorer plus series, an alternative to the mechanical pipette described here. Should requirements later change to a different number of channels or a different volume range, the rest of the laboratory equipment remains unchanged; only this 8-channel 120–1200 µL model is replaced with the appropriate variant.
Accuracy in accordance with DIN EN ISO 8655
Testing is carried out in accordance with DIN EN ISO 8655, with ten repetitions per test point and water in accordance with ISO 3696, with dispensing against the vessel wall. For the 120–1,200 µL range, the values at the test points are between 120 and 1,200 µL, broken down below into systematic and random deviations.
Recommended pipetting technique and environmental conditions
Tips that are not seated evenly are one of the most common causes of deviations between individual channels of a multichannel pipette; a quick visual check before the series helps to prevent this. The permissible operating range is 5 to 40 °C and 10 to 95 per cent relative humidity; for storage without packaging, the range is –5 to 45 °C. When pipetting 8 channels simultaneously, poor technique on a single channel has a greater impact on the overall result of the run than with a single-channel pipette – another reason to carry out a quick visual check before the first run of the day.
