Product information "Eppendorf Research plus multi-channel pipette, 8-channel, 30–300 µL, orange, 3125000052"
The Eppendorf Research plus multichannel pipette, 8-channel, 30–300 µL, orange, is the standard mechanical model for high-throughput work on microtitre plates. Eight channels mean working column-by-column rather than row-by-row: A plate column or an 8-well PCR strip is reduced to a single stroke, which is particularly advantageous when transferring samples from the thermocycler to a subsequent plate. The 30–300 µL volume range is typical for ELISA washing steps, buffer preparations and general reagent transfers in microtitre plates, often performed several times in succession within the same protocol. As a mechanical ‘Research-plus’ version, it features a spring-loaded tip cone that seals reliably even with wells of slightly varying depths, and can be autoclaved as a complete unit at 121 °C and 1 bar overpressure, without the need for a battery or software. The epT.I.P.S. 20–300 µL orange, 55 mm tip is designed to be used with this model; the order number for this version is 3125000052. The orange colour code on the 8 tip cones corresponds to the volume colour coding used by Eppendorf for this range and makes it easier to identify the correct epT.I.P.S. tips in the tip rack.
Typical applications
The Research plus multichannel pipette, 8-channel, 30–300 µL, is primarily used in everyday laboratory work for the following steps, where the same volume needs to be dispensed repeatedly into multiple wells:
- Washing steps in ELISA protocols across multiple wells
- Transfer of entire PCR strips or plate columns in a single stroke
- Buffer preparations for molecular biology
- Serial dilutions in cell culture
- Workstations where the orange colour-coding of the 8-channel tips is used for quick identification in the tip rack
Selection guide
For very high well counts (384-well), the same series also offers a 16- or 24-channel version, which serves more wells simultaneously per stroke. Within the 30–300 µL range, the 12-channel variant is also available, which is practical for higher throughput with 96-well plates. If, instead of the mechanical piston stroke, a single-button operation is required for the same number of channels and the same volume, the Eppendorf Reference 2 is the suitable alternative in the range. If you have any queries regarding the appropriate number of channels or the suitable volume range for your own workflow, the procurement service at LT Laborhandel will be happy to assist. In addition to this mechanical model, the Eppendorf Xplorer/Xplorer plus – a motorised, programmable multichannel pipette from the same product family – is also available for protocols involving varying dispensing modes. Should requirements later change to a different number of channels or a different volume range, the rest of the laboratory equipment remains unchanged; only this 8-channel 30–300 µL model is replaced with the appropriate variant.
Accuracy in accordance with DIN EN ISO 8655
Accuracy specifications refer to the test method in accordance with DIN EN ISO 8655, with ten determinations per volume step under defined conditions (20 to 27 °C, water in accordance with ISO 3696, dispensing against the vessel wall). The table below shows systematic and random deviations for each tested point between 30 and 300 µL.
Recommended pipetting technique and environmental conditions
The test conditions specified in DIN EN ISO 8655 – dispensing against the vessel wall and a uniform piston stroke – also form the basis for good pipetting technique in everyday use. The permissible operating conditions range from 5 to 40 °C at 10 to 95 per cent relative humidity, whilst storage without packaging is permitted at temperatures ranging from –5 to 45 °C. With 8 channels operating simultaneously, poor technique on a single channel has a greater impact on the overall result of the run than it would with a single-channel pipette – an additional reason to carry out a quick check before the first run of the day.
