Why a yellow overlay lens? The contrast advantage

Whilst clear protective lenses are the standard, many professionals swear by yellow-tinted overlay lenses. The ‘Amber’ tint filters out certain components of blue light. This results in a subjective increase in contrast and depth of field. This can be a huge help, particularly in workshop environments with diffuse lighting or when positioning the electrode with precision. The contours of the workpiece stand out more clearly, and the transition between the molten pool and solidified slag can often be distinguished more easily. The main purpose of the outer attachment visor is to protect the sensitive anti-glare filter (ADF) located behind it. In tough everyday working conditions, the helmet is constantly exposed to flying sparks, metal spatter, heat and smoke. The ESAB attachment visor is made of highly impact-resistant polycarbonate, which effectively prevents particles from penetrating as far as the filter. A special hard-coat (HC) finish makes the surface more resistant to scratches (“scratch-resistant”), which significantly extends the visor’s service life and guarantees you a clear view for longer.

Easy to replace and a perfect fit

A worn or scratched visor is not only a safety hazard, but also strains the eyes and leads to poorer welding results. Replacing the visor on the Sentinel A50 is remarkably simple: thanks to the “quick-release” button on the outside of the helmet, the visor can be changed in a matter of seconds without the need for tools. Simply press the button, remove the old visor, click the new yellow visor into place – and you’re done. This minimises downtime and gives you a clear view straight away.
