Product information "Giese-GEF Environmentally Hazardous Substance Mark, 100 x 100 mm, Self-Adhesive Film, Roll of 1,000, UMW-10-1"

Fish and tree in black on white: the environmentally hazardous substance mark goes on packages whose contents meet the criteria in 2.2.9.1.10 ADR. Giese-GEF, based in Offenbach am Main, supplies it as a roll of 1,000 pieces, 100 x 100 mm, on self-adhesive film.

Applications

The mark sits next to the UN number on the package. Examples include UN 3077 (environmentally hazardous substance, solid, n.o.s.) and UN 1203 (petrol). It applies in addition to the hazard labels; for UN 3077, this means alongside the hazard label Class 9, and for petrol, alongside the hazard label Class 3. IBCs over 450 l and large packagings carry it on two opposite sides. The UN number itself is not part of this mark and is applied separately, for example using the UN number mark for lettering, with a character height of at least 12 mm; for packages up to 30 l or 30 kg net mass, the character height must be at least 6 mm.

Design of the mark

The manufacturer depicts a dead fish and a dead tree in black on a white background. The ADR requires a diamond measuring at least 100 x 100 mm with a border of at least 2 mm. A smaller size is permitted provided that everything remains clearly visible. Legally, it is a distinct mark in accordance with 5.2.1.8 and not a hazard label.

Material and finish

The material is self-adhesive film. According to the manufacturer, it is seawater-resistant in accordance with BS 5609, a voluntary standard not required by the IMDG Code. One roll contains 1,000 pieces and, according to the manufacturer, weighs approx. 1.9 kg.
