Product information "Giese-GEF Hazard Label Class 8 (Corrosive Substances), 100 x 100 mm, Self-Adhesive Film, Roll of 1,000, 800-10-1"
The Class 8 hazard label is used to mark packages containing corrosive substances. The diamond-shaped label measures 100 x 100 mm, is printed on self-adhesive film and is supplied in rolls of 1,000 by Giese-GEF in Offenbach am Main.
Applications
Class 8 comprises corrosive substances according to ADR. The label goes on packages containing such substances and is often applied as a subsidiary hazard label alongside the label for the primary hazard. Examples include UN 1830 sulphuric acid, UN 1789 hydrochloric acid and UN 1824 sodium hydroxide solution. If other hazards are present, such as flammability or toxicity, the relevant labels are added, for example Class 3 or Class 6.1.
Design of the hazard label
The upper half is white and depicts liquids being poured from two test tubes, corroding a hand and a piece of metal. The lower half is black with a white border; the number 8 appears in white in the lower corner. Class 8 is the only hazard label where the text and class number must be white. The ADR describes hazard labels as a diamond standing on its point measuring at least 100 x 100 mm, with an inner line approximately 5 mm from the edge. A label of this size belongs on the package. Containers and vehicles require large labels measuring at least 250 x 250 mm; this label does not replace them.
Material and finish
The material is self-adhesive film, which the manufacturer states is seawater-resistant in accordance with BS 5609. This standard is voluntary. The IMDG Code requires that labels remain legible after at least three months in seawater, but does not specify a particular standard. One roll contains 1,000 labels and, according to the manufacturer, weighs approximately 1.9 kg.

Frequently asked questions
When is the self-adhesive film recommended? For packages transported by sea, as the IMDG Code requires the labels to remain legible after three months in seawater. For road transport, the ADR requires the label to withstand the elements, but does not specify a test procedure for this.
Does the label go on the package on its own? Not always. If the substance poses additional hazards, the relevant labels are applied close together on the same surface, without one obscuring the other.

The consignor determines which labelling a consignment requires in accordance with the applicable regulations.
