Product information "Heidolph Reax 2 including Universal Adapter for Overhead Shaker, Quick-release Mechanism for 2 Vessels, 541-21009-00"
The Reax 2 mixes vessels upside down rather than vibrating them sideways, which protects samples that cannot tolerate harsh vibrations but still need to be thoroughly mixed. In this version, the universal adapter is included as standard, meaning that, in addition to two larger vessels using the quick-release system, up to 20 test tubes can also be accommodated, ready to use without the need to order separate accessories. For laboratories that mix both individual larger bottles and entire batches of smaller tubes, a single unit thus covers both scenarios.
Quick-release clamping system for 2 vessels plus adapter for 20 test tubes
The two clamps of the quick-release mechanism accommodate containers of different sizes and can be opened and closed without tools. The universal adapter supplied is suitable for sealed vessels between 50 and 160 millimetres in height and extends the device’s capacity to hold up to 20 test tubes simultaneously, handy when a whole series of smaller tubes needs to be processed instead of two larger bottles. The maximum permissible load is 1 kilogram.
Electronically controlled overhead rotation
The Reax 2 rotates the vessels upside down and controls the speed electronically; the speed is displayed on an analogue readout. According to the data sheet, the speed range is 20 to 200 revolutions per minute; the manufacturer’s product description elsewhere states a range of 20 to 100 revolutions per minute, this contradiction is already noted as such on the manufacturer’s website. With a sound pressure level below 45 dB(A) in accordance with IEC 61010 and a maximum power consumption of 33 watts, operation remains unobtrusive, even over extended periods. The unit is powered by a shaded-pole motor designed for the specified rated voltage of 230 to 240 V at 50 Hz or 115 V at 60 Hz.
Design for a fixed laboratory workstation
Measuring 501 x 235 x 180 millimetres and weighing around 5 kilograms, the Reax 2 is designed as a stationary unit for a fixed position on the worktop, not for constant movement between rooms. The working area, measuring 230 x 160 millimetres, accommodates the quick-release holders and, if required, the universal adapter. A self-resetting overheating protection system ensures safe operation even during prolonged use, without the need to manually replace a fuse. For processing individual tubes from time to time, without the quick-release mechanism, a compact vortex mixer such as the Reax top from the same Heidolph range is more suitable.
Typical applications
Overhead rotation is suitable for samples that need to be mixed evenly but without harsh vibrations.
- Homogenising and mixing liquids in two larger vessels simultaneously
- Batch mixing of up to 20 test tubes using the supplied universal adapter
- Gentle mixing of samples that cannot tolerate strong vibrations
- Flexible use between a few large and many small vessels without the need to purchase additional accessories

Scope of delivery
- Reax 2 overhead shaker, base unit
- Universal adapter for sealed vessels with a height of 50 to 160 mm
If you do not require the adapter, for example, because you already have your own or because you work exclusively with the two quick-release clamps, the Reax 2, which is identical in construction but without the universal adapter, offers a slimmer and slightly more affordable version of the same base unit.
