Product information "IKA C-MAG HS 10, magnetic stirrer with heating, ceramic plate (260 x 260 mm), 0003581400"

Thermodynamic infrared transmission and amorphous ceramic matrix

The supply of massive amounts of thermal energy to large-volume chemical reaction systems requires material architectures that are thermophysically completely resistant to temperature gradients and corrosion. The IKA C-MAG HS 10 utilises a monolithic, macroscopic base plate (260 x 260 mm) made of glass-hard, amorphous industrial ceramic. This microstructured ceramic plate is physically inert to highly corrosive acids and acts as a highly efficient infrared transmitter. With a massive heating capacity of 1,500 watts, the system raises the surface temperature to up to 500 °C. The thermal energy is not primarily transferred via conductive heat transfer, but is coupled deep into the glass matrix of large-volume reaction vessels (up to 15 litres) with an extremely high proportion of infrared radiation, which drastically minimises thermodynamic latencies.

Electromagnetic kinematics and macro-fluid mechanics

The physical mixing of structurally viscous fluids in large-volume matrices requires a substantial, slip-free torsional torque. The system generates a strong alternating electromagnetic field that synchronises the stirring rod within the medium at a frequency of 100 to 1,500 revolutions per minute. The electronic motor control system continuously compensates for the rheological resistance of the 15-litre volume. This rotation generates a powerful fluid-dynamic vortex which prevents solids from settling under the influence of gravity and maximises molecular mixing (mass transfer) at the phase boundaries.

System cybernetics and thermodynamic hardware safety

Metrological control of the heating plate is carried out via an integrated LCD display, which allows the exact setting of the digital target temperature. For isochoric temperature control directly within the liquid medium, the system features a standardised DIN 12878 interface for connecting electronic contact thermometers (such as the IKA ETS-D5). Occupational health and safety is ensured by an independent, hardware-based safety circuit which physically cuts off the power supply when the plate reaches a limit temperature of exactly 550 °C. In addition, the visual ‘Hot Top’ indicator warns of the latent infrared residual heat in the ceramic matrix, even after the system has been disconnected from the mains supply.

Individual requirements & accessories

The C-MAG HS 10 is designed for the thermodynamic heating of large volumes. Without an external control unit, the system controls only the temperature of the ceramic plate, but not that of the medium. For cybernetically precise, isochoric process control, the IKA ETS-D5 electronic contact thermometer is physically essential. To position this metrological instrument hydrodynamically correctly within the flow vortex, you will also require the IKA support rod (H 16 V), the mounting bracket (H 38) and the cross-sleeve (H 44). Please contact our procurement service at any time for the thermodynamically correct configuration of your large-volume setup.
